EA SPORTS Ships Madden NFL 2002 for Nintendo GameCube
World’s Best-selling NFL Video Game Franchise Offers Gamers a True On-Field Experience
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – November 8, 2001 – Madden NFL™ 2002 for the Nintendo GameCube™ video game system ships today, the first Nintendo GameCube title to ship from Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) and the first sports title available for the new platform. In the 12th year of the legendary Madden franchise, Madden NFL 2002 is now available on seven gaming systems and will launch for the Game Boy® Advance on November 19.
On Nintendo GameCube, the colors of the uniforms, fields, players and crowds are more vibrant in Madden NFL 2002 and there is a higher level of detail for the individual crowd members and field textures than has been seen before. Gamers will also enjoy the depth of field in this version. Coach animations feature new face and body technology, as each coach was personally laser-scanned and photographed to ensure that they are portrayed on the sideline as realistically as possible. Madden NFL is still the only game where actual coaches can roam the sideline. Adding to the overall gaming experience, Madden NFL 2002 brings the gamer closer to the action this year with all new camera angles, going inside the huddle with a helmet cam featuring extremely deep emotion.
“This has been a big year in terms of developing this key franchise for so many different systems that offer improved memory and graphical capabilities,” said executive producer Steven Chiang. “The GameCube really shows off the intense and realistic gameplay experience we offer to gamers, with incredible colors and details to the players. It will be hard to tell the video game apart from an actual NFL game on network TV."
Madden NFL 2002 for Nintendo GameCube™ features the Two-Minute Drill, where points can be earned in a quick-hitting fast-paced game within the game; Create-a Team, including customized logos, uniforms, helmets and stadiums; and Training Mode, where the X’s and O’s of football can be learned from John Madden while perfecting in-game skills.
Gamers can also play and draft as the newest NFL franchise, the Houston Texans, and can even take them to the Super Bowl™ in Franchise Mode. Madden Cards complement the game with new players, designs and cheerleaders. These cards, earned by performing certain tasks, can unlock legendary teams, players, stadiums, and can also boost player ratings. Madden NFL 2002 lets gamers choose to play from hundreds of the greatest NFL players from the past with the inclusion of the All-Madden teams dating back to 1984, All-Madden Super Bowl and All-Madden Millennium teams.
Madden NFL 2002 for the Game Boy Advance provides great Madden-style game play from the same engine of past 16-bit versions. With updated teams, rosters and full season play from the real NFL schedule, gamers have a portable version of their favorite franchise.
