EARTH & BEYOND TO BE HAUNTED WITH HALLOWEEN FESTIVITIES
Halloween brings new quests, monsters and items to the galaxy Oct. 31
LAS VEGAS, NV (Oct. 23, 2002) - Westwood Studios(tm) announced today it will celebrate Halloween in Earth & Beyond(tm) with new themed quests, high-level content, and unique items that will only be available Oct. 31.
Earth & Beyond is an online role-playing galaxy published by Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS) under the EA GAMES(tm) brand.
The update that Westwood is releasing for the game Oct. 30 will provide players with content for an in-game Halloween event to happen Oct. 31. The event is open to all players, and will hold to the game's fiction while offering several new Halloween activities. These include such things as costumes and pumpkin projectiles that will affect both the players' in-game starships and avatars. Players who wish to participate in the festivities can log on anytime Oct. 31.
"The entire Earth & Beyond team has had a blast creating these Halloween activities," said Craig Alexander, vice president and executive producer of Earth & Beyond. "We're excited to be able to host in-game events like this, and we think our players will have fun with the unique content and missions we've come up with."
In addition to the in-game event, Westwood is hosting a Halloween contest on the game's official website, www.earthandbeyond.com. The contest, called 'Megan's Masquerade,' invites contestants to create a Halloween costume for the game's digital assistant, Megan. Beginning Oct. 25, entrants can submit digital images of their costumes via the game's website. Winners will be selected by Westwood Nov. 8, and will receive Earth & Beyond paraphernalia.
In Earth & Beyond, players become captains of their own starships and live futuristic galactic adventures as they explore, trade and fight with thousands of others. In addition, players will face new challenges over time as the developers add sectors, planets, missions, monsters, characters, features, evolving plot lines and more.
