UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., October 15, 2002– Universal Interactive, Inc., a studio of the Games division of Vivendi Universal Publishing, announced today that "Crash Bandicoot®: The Wrath of Cortex" for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, has been recognized as a "Greatest Hits" release. In "Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex," the orange marsupial is once again pitted against his arch-nemesis, the evil scientist Dr. Neo Cortex. This time around, Cortex has harnessed the Elemental Masks of Air, Earth, Water and Fire to power his latest diabolical creation, a super-bandicoot-gone-bad with one mission in his feeble mind: get rid of our hero, Crash.
Players are immersed in non-stop platform game action when the Elemental Masks unleash their power in the form of tsunami waves, volcanoes, giant balls of fire, cyclones, and stampeding herds of animals. It is up to Crash, with the help of his brainy kid sister, Coco, to thwart Cortex's sinister plans and restore order to the weather-beaten world. In a heroic effort, Crash travels by land, sea and air in all-new vehicles including an atlasphere, a helipack, a mechanized robot, a giant mosquito and more to triumph over Cortex The game features more than 40 hours of gameplay, multiple play modes, time trial sequences, and five unique bosses in more than 30 dynamic levels.
"We are very pleased that Crash's first outing on a next-generation game console was well received by consumers," said Nicholas Longano, general manager of Universal Interactive. "Now the 'Greatest Hits' label will invite a larger number of casual gamers to enjoy this action-packed game and become fans of Crash Bandicoot."
Crash Bandicoot is among the best-selling character-based game franchises in the history of the PlayStation® game console. The Crash franchise has sold more than 26 million units worldwide, with more 11 million units sold in North America alone. "Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex" is rated E for Everyone.
