Dolby Multichannel Audio Featured
in Every Upcoming Game from Eidos Interactive
Mad Dash Racing first Eidos video game
to use Dolby Digital technology
San Francisco, October 9, 2001-Dolby Laboratories and Eidos Interactive [NASDAQ: EIDSY], a leading developer and publisher of interactive entertainment for the PC and console gaming systems, announced the inclusion of Dolby multichannel audio technology in all of Eidos' upcoming releases, starting with Mad Dash Racing. As Eidos' first game for the new Xbox video game system from Microsoft, Mad Dash Racing will employ the Dolby Interactive Content Encoder, a technology that dynamically encodes multichannel audio into a Dolby Digital 5.1 signal.
Eidos' plan to incorporate Dolby Digital 5.1 in its titles is a result of Dolby's Virtual Incubator Program (VIP). Providing information and support for the developer community, VIP materials explain how developers can use the Dolby Interactive Content Encoder to integrate Dolby Digital 5.1 into game titles and platforms, and how interactive audio can enhance the overall gaming experience.
"Eidos has a great commitment to giving gamers the highest quality gaming experience, which is why we will be incorporating Dolby multichannel audio technology into all of our games," said Chip Blundell, Marketing Director for Eidos Interactive. "A whole new genre of game content for Eidos, Mad Dash Racing is a unique blend of high-speed combat racing, 3-D adventure action, and multiplayer competition. This game's design, enveloping 3-D interactive game sound, and music by popular electronic artists, combined with Dolby Digital technology, provides an unforgettably cinematic interactive experience. We plan to release all our Xbox titles with Dolby Digital 5.1."
"Including Dolby's 5.1 surround audio in today's high-performance game platforms means home gaming can now surpass even the best arcade gaming experiences," said Dennis Staats, Director, Computer and Games Technology Marketing, Dolby Laboratories. "I'm quite sure that Mad Dash Racing, as well as all future Eidos Dolby Digital 5.1 titles, will delight and astound gamers with an interactive 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack."
