Peter Gabriel Signs Videogame
Music Deal with Ubisoft
Musician to write songs for the famous Myst® series of games
San Francisco, CA - October 8, 2003 - Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video
game publishers, has teamed up with Peter Gabriel to add a distinctive sound to
its Myst® franchise of games. Gabriel will provide the song, "Burn You Up, Burn
You Down" for the November release of Uru(tm): Ages Beyond Myst® and the
world-renowned artist will also provide an original composition for the next
game in the series. Myst® is one of the most widely recognized game brands in
history, with more than 12 million copies sold worldwide.
"When Myst® came out I thought it succeeded well in creating a feeling of other
worlds in which mystery and imagination were the compelling elements instead of
the usual action packed 'shoot 'em ups'," said Peter Gabriel, artist. "I think
there is some similarity with the way I try and create worlds of sound. I, and
my collaborators, are very much looking forward to working with the Myst® team."
Peter Gabriel has earned a worldwide reputation for his innovative work as a
musician, writer and video maker. He launched his solo career in 1975 and has
released 12 solo albums. In 1986 he won his first Grammy with his seventh album,
'So'. His video 'Sledgehammer' won the most music video awards ever.
"There are only a handful of artists whose work takes me to deeper places. Peter
Gabriel is one. His music is unique in its ability to paint a picture in my mind
and give it feeling, give it life. At Cyan Worlds we certainly approach bringing
places to life in a different way than Peter does, but I believe our goal is the
same - build a bridge to someplace new. So, it's truly a unique pleasure to have
a chance to work with Peter Gabriel's team, taking new worlds to a deeper
level," said Rand Miller, CEO of Cyan Worlds.
"This deal signifies a chance for two creative talents - Peter Gabriel and Rand
Miller from Cyan Worlds, the makers of Myst® and Riven®, to work together. These
artists have each broken new ground in their respective fields, and I'm sure
that fans of both can't wait to see and hear the results of their
collaboration," said Yves Guillemot, president and CEO of Ubisoft.
The first game to ship featuring Peter Gabriel's music will be Uru(tm): Ages
Beyond MYST®. Uru(tm) is the most immersive and ambitious adventure experience
in the Myst world to date. In Uru(tm), you'll spend hours freely discovering
vast, visually arresting 3D worlds and solving mentally stimulating puzzles.
Players will also have the option of subscribing to Uru Live, to continue the
adventure online. By entering Uru Live, players will have the unique opportunity
to explore new Ages with other Myst fans around the world. The gathering has
already begun at www.urulive.com
