Sony Pictures Digital Miniaturizes Ratchet & Clank For Mobile Phone Mayhem
New Mobile Game Marks First Transition for PlayStation Brand-Exclusive Property From Console to Phone
CULVER CITY, Calif. - Sony Pictures Digital is bringing PlayStation2 computer entertainment system superstars Ratchet & Clank® to mobile phones for the very first time with a brand new adventure. The mobile game, which will be available for download by the end of October, marks the first time a PlayStation® brand-exclusive game has been produced for the mobile phone platform.
This all-new Ratchet & Clank adventure, developed specifically for mobile gamers, lets players guide the famous duo on an adventure through a hazard-filled mobile phone. Ratchet and Clank arrive in their cellular predicament after a miniaturization process goes awry. The two must then explore the phone's darkest recesses in a search for the keys that will help them to escape.
"In developing the Ratchet & Clank mobile game, we made an extra effort to preserve the brand and humor of this outstanding franchise," said Shalom Mann, vice president, Games Studio, Sony Pictures Digital Sales and Marketing. "This new Ratchet & Clank adventure will thrill fans of the original PlayStation 2 series and deliver first-time mobile players a challenging and entertaining experience," added Jason Wells, vice president, mobile sales, Sony Pictures Digital Sales and Marketing.
The new Ratchet & Clank mobile game brings the console experience directly to users' phones with many of the game series' trademark details. Not only can players propel Ratchet from wall to wall as he scales obstacles and dodges waves of enemies, but they can choose from outrageous weapons including the Boarzooka, Gravity Bombs and Mini Rockets. As in the console version, players can visit a store at the end of every level to purchase new items or upgrade weapons.
In addition to the game, Ratchet & Clank enthusiasts can download a variety of personalization products that includes wallpapers and screensavers. Each of the downloadable files can be previewed prior to purchase at http://www.sonypictures.com/mobile/ratchet/ or by sending the text message "Ratchet" to 4SONY (47669).
"We are thrilled that the Ratchet & Clank universe has been so seamlessly transported to mobile devices, allowing users to enjoy the unique experience of this franchise anywhere at anytime," said Grady Hunt, senior producer, product development, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "Sony Pictures Digital's ability to develop our signature properties for alternative platforms allows us to expand into new markets and address new audiences with an assurance that the final product will be of the highest quality."
Ratchet & Clank made its debut on the PlayStation 2 in 2002. The title reinvented the action platform category by blending the exploration, adventure, puzzle-solving, strategy and racing genres, fusing these elements into a creative, humorous, sci-fi fantasy. To date, the award-winning Ratchet & Clank franchise continues to be one of the most popular ever developed for the PlayStation 2.
Ratchet & Clank will be available through most major carriers. There are no airtime charges for playing the game, only usage charges when downloading the game or personalization products.
