EA Sports NHL 2004 Global Championship Video Game Tournament Comes to Detroit
Final Competition Plays Out February 6-8 during NHL All-Star Weekend
WHAT:
Electronic Arts with its worldwide number one video game brand, EA SPORTS(tm),
and the National Hockey League are partnering to bring gamers and hockey fans
the third annual EA SPORTS NHL® 2004 Global Championship. An international NHL
2004 video game tournament, the EA SPORTS NHL 2004 Global Championship is a
series of regional tournaments occurring throughout North America, culminating
in a final competition for the title of NHL 2004 Global Champion to take place
during the NHL All-Star weekend on Feb. 6-8, 2004. There are also plans to host
additional international tournaments.
NHL 2004 is the 12th installment of EA's legendary #1 selling pro hockey franchise* and delivers the most authentic hockey experience to date, with new features that accentuate the fast-paced, physical nature of the game. New "Bruise Control(tm)" lets players charge up huge hits to level the competition, and an all-new fighting engine delivers thrilling, grappling-based fisticuffs, for when talking just won't settle things. *Based on total franchise sales in 2002 according to The NPD Group, Inc.
WHO:
Up to 128 of best local gamers and most competitive hockey fans meet in a local
video game store to play NHL 2004 and battle it out for a chance to compete for
the National, and ultimately Global title.
WHEN:
Saturday, October 4th.
Event registration runs on-site from 10:00am-Noon and is open to the first 128 gamers to sign up.
The tournament will begin at noon and run until a regional winner has been determined.
The regional tournament winner will then compete at the U.S. National Finals in New York City against other U.S. regional tournament winners on October 25. The National Finals winner will then compete for the NHL 2004 Global Championship during the NHL All-Star weekend on Feb 6-8, 2004 in St. Paul Minn.
