WESTWOOD TO PARTNER WITH IGAMES FOR EARTH & BEYOND GALACTIC RALLY
10 game centers around the country to compete for prizes
LAS VEGAS (Sept. 16, 2002) - Westwood Studios(tm) announced today it's teamed with iGames(tm), a national organization of PC game centers, to hold an Earth & Beyond(tm) Galactic Rally between 10 of its centers nationwide Saturday, Sep. 21.
Earth & Beyond, the first online role-playing galaxy, will be published by Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS) under the EA GAMES(tm) brand Sept. 24.
The Galactic Rally is a race through the Earth & Beyond galaxy in the style of a classic car race. Ten iGames centers around the country will compete for a chance to win an Earth & Beyond launch party at their iGames location. Contestants will be given clues and must travel to checkpoints in different sectors in the game, bringing and retrieving in-game items to the checkpoint attendants.
Each center must work as a team to be eligible to win the Galactic Rally. The first center's team to finish will win the Earth & Beyond launch party. Westwood will provide the winning center food, drinks, a chance to meet the game's designers, and free copies of Earth & Beyond, signed by the development team.
The iGames centers that will be participating in the galactic rally are:
-
Cyber Conxion - Wayne, NJ
-
Icelan - Pomona, CA
-
UConnect - Vernon Hills, IL
-
Net Heads - Indianapolis, IN
-
E2 Café - Miami, FL
-
EnZone - San Francisco, CA
-
The Gaming Center - Irving, TX
-
NeoQuest Games - Lansdale, PA
-
Head 2 Head Games - London, ON
-
Strike Net - Tulsa, OK
Anyone interested in competing in the Earth & Beyond Galactic Rally can sign up at the official iGames website at http://www.igames.org/Events.asp?Event=729.
Westwood is currently conducting a beta test of Earth & Beyond with thousands of people playing every day. Players still have time to join the beta test by downloading the software for free from GameSpy.com at www.FilePlanet.com, or at the official Earth & Beyond website at www.earthandbeyond.com.
In addition, until Sept. 18th, anyone who pre-purchase the retail version of Earth & Beyond at Electronics Boutique, www.ebgames.com, GameStop, or www.gamestop.com, will receive an Earth & Beyond beta test disc, and will be included in the Founders' Federation.
In Earth & Beyond, players become captains of their own starships and live futuristic galactic adventures as they explore, trade and fight with thousands of others. In addition, because this is a living, dynamic universe, players will face new challenges over time as the developers add sectors, planets, missions, monsters, characters, features, evolving plot lines and more.
