ENTERTAINMENT, INC.’S NBA JAM TO BRING THE FUNK WITH MUSIC LEGEND BOOTSY
COLLINS
Grammy-Winner Scores on Video Game Soundtrack and Serves as In-Game Commentator
GLEN COVE, NY, September 15, 2003 – Combining high-flying, over-the-top NBA action with arena-rocking, jump-out-of-your-seat music, Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ.SC: AKLM) today unveiled the in-game music soundtrack for its eagerly anticipated launch of NBA JAM. Featuring three original tracks created by recording legend Bootsy Collins specifically for NBA JAM, the soundtrack also features other top-selling artists including James Brown, Smokey Robinson, Peaches and Herb, Kool & The Gang, Rick James, Bel Biv Devoe, Tag Team, Deuce, F.O.S. and SubUrban. NBA JAM, a proven video game brand with over 6 million units sold worldwide, slams home on September 30 for the next-generation consoles.
“One of the many aspects that differentiates NBA JAM from other video games is how we approach the history of the game – decade by decade,” said David Knies, Director of Acclaim Sports. “Creating a dynamic in-game soundtrack that enhances this experience is one of the ways we build upon our NBA JAM brand. Bootsy’s contributions to the soundtrack reflect NBA JAM’s distinctive personality and entertainment experience.”
“I’ve been in the music business for a long time and have been fortunate enough to work with lots of the industry’s top musicians and artists of all cultures,” said Bootsy Collins. “However, nothing could have been more funky-fun-fantastic, than having the experience of creating music for this video game, NBA JAM it's in a class all by it self. Uhh! Classic that is.”
Collins worked directly with Acclaim’s Cincinnati Studio to write, perform and produce two original songs for the soundtrack: “Jam On,” and “Big Ballin.” He also helped write and performed on “Jam Show.” Collins is also featured as an in-game guest commentator throughout the 1970’s era alongside Tim Kitzrow, the original voice of NBA JAM. An accomplished singer, bass player, guitarist and songwriter, he has worked with a wide-range of artists throughout his thirty-five year career, including George Clinton, James Brown, Bobby Womack, Keith Richards, Herbie Hancock, Buckethead, Snoop Dogg, Public Enemy, Ice Cube, Fat Joe and Lady Miss Kier of Deee-Lite, to name a few. In 2002, Collins scored a Grammy Award for Best Music Video for his single “Weapon Of Choice,” a song he collaborated on with Fatboy Slim, from his album “Halfway Between The Gutter and The Stars.”
