San Francisco September 6, 2001 - Ubi Soft® Entertainment, Fox Interactive and Visiware announced today they have signed a worldwide accord to publish games based on the classic novel "Planet of the Apes" written by Pierre Boulle, which will feature elements from the classic “Planet of the Apes” film franchise. The Planet of the Apes action-adventure games are scheduled to be released around the world on PC this month, followed by a GAME BOY Advance and GAME BOY® Color version in November 2001. This partnership marks the first adaptation of the popular film series into interactive games.
Considered classics today, the novel was first published in 1963 and the first of the original five Planet of the Apes movies was released in 1968 starring Charlton Heston. The games are based on original stories intertwining the first film, “Planet of the Apes” and the second film, “Beneath the Planet of the Apes” and draws upon the richness of the novel and the classic films.
“Signing with Visiware and Fox, a well-known partner in the movie and interactive industries, enables Ubi Soft to pursue its strategy of creating games from strong properties”, said Alain Corre, Managing Director for Europe, Asia Pacific and South America, Ubi Soft Entertainment. “The games are sure to surprise and thrill even the most diehard fans of Planet of the Apes!”
Based on its license from Visiware, Ubi Soft is developing the GAME BOY® Color and GAME BOY Advance versions of the game. The GAME BOY® Advance version will utilize the console's advanced features combining extraordinary graphics special effects, scrolling effects, and photo-quality images. The PC and PlayStation® versions are developed by Visiware.
