As an intro to the video, here is some detailed information about the OPA system in Rainbow Six Vegas:
Tactics in Rainbow Six Vegas
Tactics is one of the main values of Rainbow Six games. In Rainbow Six Vegas, we are integrating a new and innovative team order system that lets the player control his team for all types of situations.
We’ll have also some Rules of Engagement (RoE) to allow the player to deal with the terrorist silently and efficiently or engage in deadly fire fights. The player will be rewarded for choosing the appropriate tactics and executing them properly and we’ll give him all the tools you’d expect an expertly trained counter-terrorist unit to use.
On the other hand, sometimes there is little time for planning and you want your team to make the right calls and behave like Rainbows would on their own, so we’ve also pushed the team AI in that direction.
What is O.P.A.?
O.P.A. stands for Observation, Planning and Assault.
By using the OPA, players can Observe a situation (point of entries, number of terrorists and hostages etc.), then they Plan (which gadget/weapon to use, how to enter the room, by which way etc.) and finally they Assault. The sense of freedom is very important in Vegas.
Observation:
- See a situation
- Understand the options
- Get additional info to help with the choice
Planning:
- Decide what to do, which choice to take
- Decide how to do it
- Decide WHEN to do it
Assault:
- Execute the plan
- Change the plan if it goes wrong!
Observation
Many tools and options are given to the players to make sure the Observation phase is well done. Not observing a situation can have strong repercussions on your next moves. Entering a room without knowing what to expect could result in a very difficult situation where you have to adapt yourself to the action instead of being the one controlling the infiltration.
Here is a list of what can be used to observe a situation:
a) Rappelling / Invert-Rappelling
b) Picture-in-Picture
c) Take Cover
d) Vision goggles / modes
e) Snake Cam
