GameSpy Industries, Inc. and Disney Interactive, Inc. Sign Technology Agreement
TRON 2.0 to Utilize GameSpy's Online Gaming Solutions
(Irvine, Calif.) - August 23, 2002. Internet online gaming leader GameSpy Industries, Inc. and Disney Interactive, Inc., a worldwide leader in the creation of innovative interactive entertainment, today announced that the two companies have signed a worldwide license to utilize GameSpy's online technology middleware and related back-end services for the upcoming title TRON® 2.0, which is scheduled for release in spring 2003.
TRON 2.0, which is being developed by Monolith Productions, Inc., and uses the all-new LithTech Triton System game engine, is a story driven, first-person action game that delivers intense action, out-of-this-world villains, fast and furious disc battles and light cycle races - all in the tradition of the groundbreaking 1982 movie TRON. The Monolith team will utilize GameSpy's middleware tools and back-end services to enable online gaming and community features in TRON 2.0.
GameSpy's middleware provides PC and console games with key features for online game play, including player matching, online storage, instant messaging, voice and text chat, anti-piracy protection, competition and high-scoring systems. GameSpy will also manage the back-end services for TRON 2.0, providing the servers, bandwidth and reporting required to deliver a high-quality online gaming experience to Disney Interactive's gamer customers.
"GameSpy's experience in Middleware Services & Development, and the extensive back-end support they offer made them an outstanding choice to help us bring TRON 2.0 to the online gaming community," said Jan Smith, President of Disney Interactive.
"By using GameSpy's technology, which has been honed by years of game developer feedback, Disney Interactive and Monolith will save countless man hours and testing time by 'not reinventing the wheel,'" added Mark Surfas, CEO of GameSpy Industries.
GameSpy offers a suite of 13 different multi-platform SDKs to enable online gaming, and the reliable back-end infrastructure that has matched players in more than one billion gaming sessions for more than five years.
