WAITER, THERE’S A GRENADE IN MY MARTINI:
THE DELTA FORCE BLACKHAWK DOWN LAUNCH PARTY
July 28, 2005 - Westwood, California - The W Hotel in Westwood was the hotspot to be on the cool Thursday evening and it was the perfect atmosphere to check out Novalogic’s new release, Delta Force: Blackhawk Down. The launch party for the game based on the volatile conflict in Somalia in the early 1990s was held in the hotel’s dimly lit Whiskey Blue bar but the place was alive with the sounds of music and gunfire as the game was being previewed on six giant plasma screens on both the PlayStation 2 and Xbox.

On hand were FHM models dancing on the bar’s countertop to the thumping sounds of a DJ mixing it up while cocktail servers, dressed in skimpy militaristic gear served military-themed drinks. Grenades, for example, are really sour apple martinis while a Hum-V is a tequila sunrise. On the outdoor lounge a former Miss California was showing off her unique talent of ice sculpting incredible detailed shapes (she had sculpted an actual Blackhawk helicopter complete with propellers) using a chainsaw.

As the evening rolled on an MC introduced a local-based band called The 88 (the band’s music heard on shows like The OC and One Tree Hill) and they kicked things off with some mellow pop tunes on the small stage inside. The band played a short set and came back later to play a few more songs for the crowds that cheered for them to play on.

The star of the show, however, was the game itself. While the single player game was on display, the game’s main attraction is its massive multiplayer game mode that promised up to fifty players on the screen. The game also features vehicles, which range from Hum-Vs to Blackhawk helicopters.
“Can you imagine the possibilities online,” partygoer Andrea Rice said. “It’s going to be a massive playground with players flying helicopters while another player man’s the gun turret onboard.”
Delta Force: Blackhawk Down is available in stores now.
