Burlingame, CA – May 19, 2003 – The Groove makes the game. And this year, no other game got its groove on better than Gitaroo Man™. At the start of last week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), KOEI’s Music and Rhythm Game was honored by music magazine, Spin.
With a shout-out to “All the Games that Rock,” Spin magazine gave mad props to Gitaroo Man by honoring the title with the 2003 Innovation Award for Music and Gaming. Each of the Spin magazine award winners appears in the June 2003 issue, available on newsstands now.
“KOEI has always been dedicated to the pursuit of games that achieve a playful balance between entertainment, technology, and art.” said Amos Ip, Vice-President of Sales & Marketing at KOEI Corporation. “We are especially thrilled that Gitaroo Man was recognized by the music journalists at Spin magazine. The Innovation Award for Music and Gaming further signifies the embrace video games are receiving from other entertainment industries, and the growing acceptance of video games as a genuine medium for art and expression.”
Also of note, each year at E3, Sony Computer Entertainment America recognizes outstanding achievements in the creation of PlayStation®2 software titles with the Publisher’s Choice Awards. This year, Gitaroo Man was nominated in the award category for Original Funk.
About Gitaroo Man
The music for Gitaroo Man was produced by the Japanese pop band, Coil. To ensure that players experience the highest sound quality, the actual sound files were recorded using a hybrid digital/analog process, and then implemented using Universal Music Studio Japan’s Spectrum Sound System
Gitaroo Man is unlike any other game in the Music and Rhythm genre. Rather than simply pressing buttons on the controller to a beat, the player is able to bend notes by moving the Left Analog stick. This, combined with rhythmic button pressing creates a whole new gameplay element. Gitaroo Man’s 10 colorfully unique stages include Reggae, Rock, Hip-Hop, Techno tracks and more. Gitaroo Man was released to rave reviews in February 2002:
