EA Developing Sid Meier's SimGolf(tm)
Legendary game designer Sid Meier teams up with Maxis on a new title due out in Fall 2001
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., May 16, 2001 - Electronic Arts (Nasdaq: ERTS) today announced that legendary game designer Sid Meier, and his team at Firaxis Games, are working with the creators of the hit PC games The Sims(tm) and SimCity(tm) to create Sid Meier's SimGolf(tm), a PC game that puts players in charge of their very own golf resort. As course designer, CEO and resident pro, the player is challenged to grow a business from a small, public pitch-and-putt to a five-star resort complete with world-class golf holes, professional tournaments and luxury accommodations.
"As both a game designer and someone who plays games, I have been a fan of Will Wright and the 'Sim' series of games for a long time," said Sid Meier, creator of such PC game hits as Railroad Tycoon®, Sid Meier's Civilization® and Sid Meier's Gettysburg!®. "I have always wanted to create a game that built upon some of the ideas that Will pioneered and combine them with some of my own. Golf resorts are really playgrounds for adults and I found that golf course design provided a perfect starting point for a 'Sim' style game. In SimGolf, each player can choose their own style of play, each game is different, and each player creates their own unique story as they exercise their creativity."
Players can create the world's most beautiful, challenging and extreme golf courses in a variety of different environments including woodlands, desert, tropical and British links and can build an entire golf resort from the ground-up. Advanced game play includes tuning the skills of your golf professional, hosting and playing in major tournaments, and dabbling in the personal lives of your members. Modification of both the course and resort to respond to the needs and interests of their Sim guests is crucial to a player's success. Players will be able to share their courses, stories, customized golfers and snapshots of their greatest golf moments with other SimGolf players from around the world via the SimGolf web site.
