SUNNYVALE, Calif. - May 09, 2003 - Yahoo! Games today announced two Atari award winning titles, "Grand Prix 4" and "Independence War 2," are now available for direct rental and streaming play on Yahoo!(r) Games on Demand (http://gamesondemand.yahoo.com ).
Atari currently has 27 titles available on the Games on Demand website including "Civilization III," "Zapper," "Rollercoaster Tycoon 2," and "Test Drive." Atari has plans to post more hit titles in the future.
About "Grand Prix 4"
Geoff Crammond's "Grand Prix 4" is the latest installment in the hugely successful PC racing series, having sold over two million units worldwide. The new edition launched on both the PC and Xbox in June 2002, bringing the sheer exhilaration of real F1 racing to a massive global audience.
Inherent throughout the entire series is the staggering attention to detail, phenomenal car physics and utterly realistic artificial intelligence. The game carries the official 2001 FIA Formula One World Championship license, featuring all the official drivers, teams and tracks from the 2001 season.
About "Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos"
"Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos" is a free form epic, a simulation set in the vastness of space. The player is introduced to a world 100 years after the first Independence War, and must take control of the universe's most advanced interstellar hardware system. Players command four futuristic battlecruisers and a band of revolutionary pirates in an all-consuming battle against impossible odds.
Game Features include:
* An innovative user-friendly interface - 90 percent of functions can be programmed where you like, on the joystick, on the keyboard or both.
* Online multiplayer support for up to eight people - play DeathMatch, Capture the Flag, and various other unique scenarios.
* The revolutionary Flux(tm) Graphics Engine: Microsoft Direct3D(r) compatible - surface effects like rust, decay and wear on the ships, and stunning fire and flare effects. All ships in the game are modeled using the textures and details from the ships created for the CGI movies.
* Physically realistic flight models. Ships use a Newtonian mechanics simulation and move according to the same rules as a real spacecraft. This includes a simulation of both linear and angular momentum, inertia and rotational movement of inertia. Ships can use either a free-flight mode or use computer-assisted fly-by-wire flight controls.
* Team-up on the enemy with detachable fighters. Keep them on-board as murderous gun turrets or order them to attack as wingmen.
* Superior non-linear gameplay spanning 16 star systems, interacting with dynamically-created space traffic.
* Command four flyable ships and over 30 weapons and ship accessories that can be used in near-infinite combinations.
