CARY eLWES CHOSEN AS THE VOICE OF tHE BARD fOR INXILE ENTERTAINMENT’S GAME tHE Bard’s Tale

Lead Actor from The Princess Bride and Robin Hood: Men in Tights Appropriately Pegged to Play the Game’s Sarcastic Main Character

May 7, 2004 (Newport Beach, CA) – Interactive entertainment developer and publisher inXile entertainment today announced that iconic film actor Cary Elwes will be the voice of the Bard in its eagerly anticipated action-role playing game (RPG) for the PlayStation 2 (PS2), Xbox and PC, The Bard’s Tale. Elwes will deliver many of the witty lines in the 5,000 thousand line, original script.

“Cary Elwes’ unforgettable performances as Wesley in The Princess Bride and Robin Hood in Robin Hood: Men in Tights along with his British accent make him the perfect fit for our tongue-in-cheek main character, The Bard,” said Brian Fargo, CEO and founder of inXile entertainment. “Much like those films, The Bard’s Tale is a slick production that both celebrates and pokes fun of its own genre.”

Care Elwes has impressed critics and audiences with his wide array of roles in which he embellishes with his distinct style and talent. Elwes was most recently seen in cast of the critically acclaimed NBC mini-series, "Uprising" opposite Jon Voight, Leelee Sobieski and David Schwimmer and starred in Lions Gate's dramatic thriller, "The Cat's Meow" opposite Kirsten Dunst and Eddie Izzard. He can currently be seen starring in Miramax's “Ella Enchanted” opposite Anne Hathaway this summer. He has recently completed filming the independent feature, EDISON, starring opposite Kevin Spacey, Morgan Freeman, and Justin Timberlake, and he can next be seen starring in the Lions Gate release, SAW.

The Bard’s Tale is an action-RPG where the player takes on the role of the Bard – a sardonic and opportunistic musician and adventurer, driven by carnal rather than noble pursuits. The Bard is not interested in saving the world; his humble motivations are strictly “coin and cleavage”. A truly non-linear game, the player chooses the Bard’s responses towards other characters he encounters with either ‘snarky’ or ‘nice’ dialogue. Each choice changes the course of events in the game. The action takes place in medieval times in a land based on the Orkney Islands off the coast of Scotland – the inspiration for many of the classic fantasy stories. Details and images of the game are available for viewing at inXile’s website, www.thebardstale.com.

The Bard’s Tale is being published by inXile entertainment and distributed by Vivendi Universal Games in North America and being published by Acclaim in Europe for a global release in the fourth quarter of 2004.
