Award Winning Gran Turismo Team Delivers True-to-Life Motorcycle Racing Simulation for PlayStation 2 With Tourist Trophy
Developers of the Best Selling Racing Videogame Franchise Continue to Define Racing Genre With New Motorcycle Franchise
Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. announced today the launch of Tourist Trophy The Real Riding Simulator(TM), available exclusively for the PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system. Developed by Polyphony Digital Inc., makers of Gran Turismo(TM), the best-selling worldwide videogame racing franchise, Tourist Trophy takes that foundation to the next level by offering a new motorcycle simulation for the racing genre. Further refining Polyphony's renowned true-to-life graphics and precise game physics, Tourist Trophy captures the delicate balance between rider and machine like never before. Featuring head-to-head racing action and various game modes to challenge players, Tourist Trophy offers 35 real-life and fantasy courses and more than 100 licensed motorcycles from manufacturers, including BMW Motorrad, Buell, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki and more.
Using what we have learned to create the most authentic racing simulation for the Gran Turismo series, our development team is excited about continuing to refine and expand our work to deliver the most realistic motorcycle racing experience ever for the PlayStation 2," said Kazunori Yamauchi, celebrated creator of the Gran Turismo franchise and Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. Corporate Executive. "Racing motorcycles in Tourist Trophy offers an entirely different and exciting gameplay experience. One has to account for a host of different variables on a motorcycle, such as riding style, capabilities of individual bikes and how a rider's movement greatly effects the motorcycle, creating a unique and new racing experience."
Tourist Trophy offers two modes of play, Arcade Mode and Tourist Trophy Mode. In Arcade Mode, players have access to a quick race for single-player or two-player battle. In both races, players have the opportunity to select their bike, track and difficulty level. Tourist Trophy Mode offers a career mode for players to polish their skills in the license school missions, and then test those skills by competing in various challenges and race events, earning new bikes and accessories along the way. Players can further personalize the racing experience by customizing everything from their gear to the degree of their riding turns to the motorcycle exhaust system.
Tourist Trophy is truly a realistic riding simulation," said Doug Polen, two-time World Superbike Champion and Ducati racer. "I can even customize my personal riding style and my gear down to the very last detail." Furthermore, in Tourist Trophy Mode, players have access to Photo Mode, which allows them to take snapshots of their favorite bike and race gear by freezing frames of an actual race from a replay. Upon taking a photograph, players have the opportunity to save it to a Memory Card (8MB) (for PlayStation(R)2) or a USB storage device and share it with friends.
Marketing Campaign For Tourist Trophy Marketing efforts for Tourist Trophy include a multi-million dollar marketing campaign across TV, radio, print and online, that will run nationally throughout Summer 2006.
