Jack's Hoose Music Joins Bowie, Garbage & Blink 182 on Soundtrack

March 14th. Jack's Hoose Music, the leading producer of original music for interactive media, is joining artists such as David Bowie, Blink 182, Garbage, Weezer, Papa Roach and Herbie Hancock on the soundtrack of Amplitude a new game for the Sony PlayStation 2 released later this month.

Amplitude is an innovative music-based game which challenges players to build and remix songs by triggering different components such as bassline, vocals, guitar, etc. all in time to the rhythm of the track. The sequel to the critically acclaimed Frequency, Amplitude builds on this concept by offering a wide range of musical styles and genres, a number of multiplayer modes and uniquely, incorporates the PlayStation 2's online gaming capabilities, allowing players from all over the world to compete against each other in an online jam and submit their favourite remixes into an international community of players, remixers, games fans and DJ's.

Ged Grimes, the founder of Jack's Hoose and one of the most highly respected figures in the world of music production, created the track, which appears in the game under the pseudonym "Game Boyz". Ged was one of the founding members of Scots pop band "Danny Wilson" who enjoyed global success with hit records such as "Mary's Prayer" and "The Second Summer Of Love". Since launching the company in 1997, Ged has grasped new opportunities to provide music for the games industry and this now forms a major part of the company's business.

"The vision for Jack's Hoose Music has always been to make people think about music in a different way," says Ged. "Our vast experience in the record and games business, coupled with the sound capabilities of consoles such as the PS2, has allowed us to be at the forefront of music-driven interactive entertainment. Within a game you have the opportunity to make the soundtrack truly interactive and have it respond to the player's actions. Sony created the rhythm style game with titles such as Parappa The Rapper and have taken it to entirely new levels with games such as Frequency and Amplitude. We are delighted to have been able to contribute to such an exciting new game."

"Sony has really pulled out all the stops to create a powerful and eclectic range of artists for Amplitude" he says. "This is an ideal game for us to be featured in, as it allows us to create new interactive entertainment experiences for music and gaming fans alike".

At Jack's Hoose Music, Ged makes extensive use of broadband and web technologies to bridge the physical gap between California and Scotland. "By using these tools, location is becoming less relevant and it has levelled the playing field with our US-based competitors. At the end of the day, we believe it comes down to the quality of our work, our expertise in producing music for different digital media and a positive global outlook which attract the biggest and best projects to Jack's Hoose Music. We had what Sony were looking for and I'm thrilled with the result."

Amplitude is released by Sony in March 2003.
