Glu Announces Deal to Bring "Age of Empires III" to Mobile Phones Worldwide
Leading Mobile Games
Publisher to Develop and Publish Another Microsoft Game Studios Title for Mobile
Today at the Game Developers Conference 2007, Glu Mobile, a leading global
publisher of mobile games, announced an agreement with Microsoft to develop and
publish a mobile adaptation of “Age of Empires® III”, based on the award-winning
real-time strategy (RTS) franchise for the PC developed by Ensemble Studios and
published by Microsoft Game Studios. Through the agreement, Glu has secured
worldwide rights to develop and publish a new mobile game based on “Age of
Empires III”, the third installment in the series that has sold a staggering 16
million copies worldwide.
“We’re excited to partner with Microsoft on another of their most valued
brands,” said Jill Braff, general manager of North America, Glu Mobile. “Age of
Empires is one of the highest-rated and best-selling RTS franchises on the PC,
and we look forward to working with Microsoft to replicate that success on
mobile.”
This publishing partnership builds on the existing relationship between Glu and
Microsoft through which Glu developed and published Project Gotham Racing®
Mobile, which launched worldwide earlier this year. “Age of Empires III” for
mobile phones is scheduled to launch worldwide in 2008.
“Glu’s passion and experience with mobile games is well-known, and we’re happy
to extend our relationship with Glu and see the ‘Age of Empires III’ experience
made available to a new audience,” said Sandy Ting, Director of Business
Development for Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business.
