S2 Games Announces Create-A-Map Contest Winner for Savage 2: A Tortured Soul
Winner’s map to be included in game
Independent game developer S2 Games today announced that a winner has been chosen in the company’s Savage 2: A Tortured Soul “Create-a-Map” contest. The clever, tree-lined, strategic winning entry, titled “Dusk Wood,” was submitted by a contestant who goes by the moniker “Trozz.” Trozz’s map will be included in the final version of the soon-to-be-released online multiplayer game and he will also receive a production credit in the game. Additionally, as part of the prize package, Trozz will receive a new Nintendo Wii™ gaming console.
The contest challenged players to design a gameplay map concept for Savage 2 using three main elements: a map image, a map size, and a written description of the map concept. A large map (for 20-25 players), “Dusk Wood” has a variety of pathways to each enemy base from a long, tree-lined central area with Scars (areas where awesome, powerful Hellbourne units can be summoned) located at each end. The design included high-to-low ground areas with cliffs from which players can jump down but not climb up.
“First things first, we’d like to extend a huge thanks to everyone for participating in this contest. The huge response made this a complete success as it's clear that many Savage fans have a great passion for this game and we found a number of great map concepts,” said Marc DeForest, co-founder and lead designer, S2 Games. “Ultimately we could only select one winning map and Trozz’s ‘Dusk Wood’ really caught our attention.”
S2 Games will be releasing a map toolset with Savage 2: A Tortured Soul so that all players will have the opportunity to create their own fantastic maps and then play on them.
