ACTIVISION BEAMS DOWN THE LATEST INFORMATION ON STAR TREK® AWAY TEAM WITH THE LAUNCH OF THE GAME'S OFFICIAL WEB SITE
Santa Monica, CA - January 25, 2001 - In conjunction with Starfleet Command and the United Federation of Planets, Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) today unveiled the official web site for its new PC game, Star Trek® Away Team. Located at www.stawayteam.com, the site will be the definitive source for all things Away Team, with profiles on in-game characters, downloads, news updates and an extensive background on the game.
The Star Trek Away Team web site will feature the following sections: News -- The inside report on the latest production news and development challenges. Overview - A comprehensive look at the key features and gameplay elements of Away Team. Developer - Learn more about Reflexive Studios, the team responsible for the development of Away Team. Screenshots - A new weekly screen shot from featured locations in the game including Starfleet Academy, Qo'nos, Romulus and even a Borg cube. Downloads -- Download behind-the-scenes artwork, exclusive wallpaper, and gameplay sounds Community-- A section featuring links to Away Team fan sites, message boards, press coverage links and development partners.
In Star Trek Away Team, the player controls a Special Forces unit of 17 highly trained specialists recruited by Starfleet for their unique combat, stealth and problem solving abilities. Away teams are comprised of three to six specialist, chosen by the player at the start of each mission. The team will have access to standard Starfleet equipment such as tricorders, phasers, hyposprays and phaser rifles as well as a number of new classified special issue items.
Played from a ¾ perspective, Star Trek Away Team combines strategy and action elements to immerse players in the world of Special Forces missions. To succeed, players will have to make use of the unique skills of each of the team members. Medical staff can heal the injured, engineers can access control panels and systems, science officers can scan the environment for needed information and security personnel will provide firepower.
