Veteran Game Developers Charlie Wallace and Rob Wyatt Join The Groove Alliance
Los Angeles, CA January 23, 2001-- The Groove Alliance [www.3dgroove.com], the next-generation entertainment and technology company, today announced the addition of Charlie Wallace and Rob Wyatt to guide the development of upcoming versions of its 3D Groove software. Wallace, co-developer of the hit games Requiem, Worms, and Tactical Fighter eXperiment (TFX), joins the company as principal research and development engineer. Wyatt, a former software developer for Microsoft's DirectX version 8 and the senior software architect of Microsoft?s X-Box game console system, joins as senior architect. Recently recognized by Newsweek Magazine as one of the top five technologies that could change consumers' lives in 2001, the 3D Groove technology allows for the creation of browser-based games that are playable on all computers regardless of connection speed, browser or operating system. Two Groove Alliance titles, Tank Wars and Real Pool 3D, are top games on Shockwave.com, with Tank Wars recently named as a "big winner game" in the US News & World Report's Best of the Web feature.
"We are proud to have Charlie and Rob on our development team," said Chris Kantrowitz, CEO of The Groove Alliance. "Their talent and experience in game technologies will continue to solidify The Groove Alliance's leading position in the online gaming industry."
Wallace was previously at The 3DO Company, serving as a principal engineer on the development of cross-platform game engines for 3DO?s various development teams. Wallace also worked at Universal Studios Digital Arts, developing 3D engines for PC and PlayStation games, including Monster Movies and Xena: Warrior Princess. Previous to USDA, Wallace collaborated on Trespasser, The Lost World and Tai fu at Dreamworks SKG. Before joining Dreamworks, Wallace was a programming manager at Team17 where he was developer and technical manager for Worms and World Rally Fever. Previously, Wallace was head of Virtual Reality at Digital Image Design, where he helped develop the core technology for TFX and EuroFighter 2000 (EF2000), and worked on prototypes for commercial and military flight simulators. He studied electronics and computer science at the University of Central Lancashire
"Charlie is a software porting freak," said Kantrowitz. "He seamlessly juggles between Windows, Linux, game console and cell phone development environments. His addition to our team will be invaluable as the content distribution enters its next major growth phase through cell phones, PDAs, TV set top boxes and other exotic devices."
Prior to Microsoft, Wyatt was at Dreamworks SKG and collaborated on Trespasser, The Lost World. Wyatt was previously employed at Krisalis Software Ltd as lead programmer and worked on projects such as SimCity 2000 and the soccer game UEFA Champions League. Wyatt is a frequent speaker at game industry conferences and writes for various publications including Game Developer Magazine, where he currently sits on the advisory board. Wyatt studied mathematics, physics and computer architecture at college in England. He earned a bachelor's degree with first class honors in digital electronics and applied computing at the University of Lancashire.
Said Kantrowitz, "Rob wrote a huge chunk of Microsoft DirectX 8's software APIs (application programming interfaces) and co-designed the X-Box. Need I say more?"
