A Whole New Game For Film Festivals: Video Game Gets World Premiere!
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Pandora Tomorrow(tm) Debut is Latest Example of the Entertainment and Video Game Industry Convergence
January 15, 2004-2004-PARK CITY, UTAH -- Spring's hottest video game will experience some cold fronts prior to its release. In an unprecedented event, Splinter Cell® Pandora Tomorrow(tm) will premiere at an event coinciding with the 2004 Sundance Film Festival. This unveiling marks the first time a video game has debuted in or around a film festival and demonstrates the increasing prominence of video games in the entertainment pantheon. Published by Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow is already one of the most anticipated video games of 2004 and was recently featured on MTV's "Ultimate Video Game Countdown."
Ubisoft, Motorola and Xbox(tm) Live, three top companies who market to the entertainment industry and consumers, come together to host an after-hours lounge at the Motorola Lodge. There they will debut the game to an audience of celebrities, filmmakers, entertainment executives, musicians and influential trendsetters. The event, which takes place on January 18th, will provide access and a first opportunity to play the eagerly awaited stealth-action game in a relaxed lounge environment.
Premiering the game at the Sundance Film Festival makes perfect sense as Hollywood and the video game industry continue to converge, according to Ubisoft's Vice President Tony Kee. "Movies and games have the same goal: to satisfy and mesmerize audiences. Whether or not the final product is a film or a game, a good one inspires strong emotions: tension, fear, elation and frustration. Clancy's Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow, with stunning production values, a compelling story, and incredible action, is a perfect example of the evolution of games. And, as a renowned launching pad for hit films, Sundance is the ideal forum to display the game's many strengths to an audience that appreciates great story lines presented in visual form."
To bolster the cinematic feel of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow, Ubisoft invested heavily in production value, bringing in cinematic artists, skilled voice actors, top quality sound, skilled scriptwriters and even commissioning an original score. The final result: a totally immersive experience-which becomes even more compelling when gamers take the game online to play against other game fans from around the world, using voice chat to communicate to one another.
