Solid Spheres Deluxe Review
I love puzzles, just about any kind, in any form. I frequently buy Dell puzzle books and work out various puzzles from pun crosswords to logic problems, with a few cross sums in-between. Solid Spheres is exactly the type of game to tickle my fancy and keep me busy for a long time.
The premise is easy to understand, but harder to accomplish. It's somewhat similar to those "hop the peg" games some restaurants have at their tables, where the goal is to hop the pieces over each other until only one is left standing. This builds on that basic format, with variations in grid layouts and special tiles that blow up the spheres in certain directions.
The goal is to jump the spheres over each other until only one is left standing. The puzzles are categorized as to difficulty in groups of varying number with a total of 85 puzzles. There is also a puzzle editor for designing puzzles. The easy levels ain't easy, and the extreme are indescribably difficult. I had to try multiple times on several of the puzzles in the easy and normal sections before success.
The game has a 3D look to it, with glistening, rounded spheres. The entire game is very attractive, and pleasant to look at while playing. The music is a tad annoying, but can be turned off.
This is an excellent puzzle game, with plenty of thought-provoking puzzles to keep fans busy for hours, trying to get the perfect combination of jumps. The editor extends the life of the game, with the possibility of family members extending challenges to each other. I wholeheartedly recommend this game for any fan of puzzles.
Gameplay: 8.5
What's not to like about puzzles? If you're tired of games requiring twitchy fingers and just want something to challenge your cerebral side for awhile, then try Solid Spheres for a complete workout for the brain. Not for the faint of heart, these puzzles are not easy, and will require some thought. But that's what's fun!
Graphics: 8
Nice graphics enhance the game experience.
Sound: 7
The music is techno, which I personally find annoying. It can be turned off, though. Others may find it highly enjoyable, it depends on taste. For this type of music, the tunes are fine.
Not for the lazy puzzle solver! A great challenge for those who like meat on their puzzles.
Concept: 7
Nothing very different here, but a great presentation of tried and true puzzles.
Overall: 8.5
I've thoroughly enjoyed playing Solid Spheres, which is the main objective of any game, hopefully. A great puzzle package for puzzle enthusiasts.
