Operation Blockade Review
Set in the 1930s- 40s you are assigned to an artillery placement in the middle of the enemy's supply lines. The object hold your position and disrupt the enemy's supply lines so you can take back your valuable land that your assailant has taken away from you. Operation Blockade is an action packed arcade shooter set in a fictitious environment though the weapons are historically accurate.
The game is very easy to hop into and start playing. The short of it is, just shoot anything that moves. There are only a handful of commands that one needs to know to play successfully. Commands like throwing grenades, calling in a bombing run, calling in a torpedo, and calling in an air strike. Some of these commands are key when ammo is low. Watching your ammo supply is important to being successful. If you run out of ammo, you will make great target practice for the enemy. You can replenish your health and supplies by destroying cargo ships and Junkers.
If you have ever played any of the beachhead games, this is some of the same. I was delighted to see better graphics, animations, blood weapons, and enemy targets. There is also a multiplayer option that boasts cooperative and competitive play.
The graphics were better than BH2002. The explosions we both visually and audibly quite good. The ships had some nice detail as well but the infantry was nothing astounding. Does this really matter? I think not, there is so much going on that you really do not have time to notice any flaws or lack of eye candy. What is important here is the fun factor, which I think is pretty high. The game keeps you quite involved and makes you have the feeling of just one more game. The missions get increasingly difficult as you progress. Though I personally wouldn’t see this as a game with a lot of replay-ability, it definitely lets you get out some aggression after a hard day at the office.

Reviewer's Scoring Details |
Gameplay: 7
Easy to get started and an easy
interface to navigate. The commands are simple and will have even the most
novice gamer blasting planes, ships, and men away.
Graphics: 8
Much better than
the beach head series but, still pretty plain considering the advance in
technology that is available today.
Sound: 8
Pretty decent,
but nothing earth shattering hear…you get it?
Difficulty: Medium
You can toggle the settings to
make this easier or more difficult.
Concept: 7
Brings arcade
shooter fans the best part of the game. Shooting, shooting, and more
shooting. Other than that, that’s about it.
Multiplayer: ?
Though an option I had a tough time finding games on the Internet, and did not try a LAN version at the time of review.
Overall: 7.5
For 20 bucks I would say it's worth it!
