GameZone 2007 Game of the Year Awards
PlayStation 2 Game Of The Year

While many would’ve seen the PS2 as being dead and buried by now with Sony’s support fully backing the PS3, this year proved it to not be the case. With big titles like God of War 2 hitting the system, Sony’s oldie-but-goodie still has some life in it yet.

PlayStation 2 Game Of The Year 2007

God of War II

GameZone's Review

Louis Bedigian: We went into 2007 anticipating one PlayStation 2 release: God of War II. Despite the hype and unbearable expectations, God of War II exits the year as that console’s best game. The remarkable combat (refined from the original) and inspired architecture yanked every last ounce of power that could be retrieved from PS2. The levels, puzzles and boss battles are at the top of their class, inciting our skills and our demand for a game that doesn’t let us casually breeze through to the end.

But more important than the challenge, the graphics and individual elements is that, when everything is brought together, God of War II is pure unrelenting fun. You can credit that to the developers who worked on the games’ controls and level designs – the first of which is essential to every game’s success, and the latter being essential to any game that involves running, jumping, and good old-fashioned enemy slaughtering. While most games of this nature fall victim to repetition and a lack of longevity, God of War II is a classic you’ll want to play today, tomorrow, and in a zillion years when PlayStation 4 arrives.

Steven Hopper: Considering the runaway success that was the original God of War, expectations were very high for its successor to say the least. Fortunately, not only did it deliver a challenging and engaging experience, it was in some ways even better than the classic original, making it the one to get this year for PS2 owners.

Eduardo Zacarias: Kratos does revenge right as you can tell in this second helping of what is the start of an amazing franchise. The first game was awesome but this sequel does things a bit bigger and better.

Natalie Romano: Never one to disappoint, everyone’s favorite Spartan hero is out to slay the Gods that have stepped on him. With new monsters and enemies to face off against, this God Slayer is on a rampage and you’ll love every second of it.

Nick Valentino: The first God of War showed gamers that the PS2 can very well run with the next-generation crown and this sequel is no exception. Kratos is still the coolest character and his quest for vengeance is one to be remembered.

Angelina Sandoval: Kratos is back and he’s still angry and we love him for it. This sequel does everything bigger and better and it remains to be one of the PS2’s finest moments. If you loved the first one you will adore this one.
