GameZone 2007 Game of the Year Awards
PC Game Of The Year

So, while Microsoft’s latest OS Vista has yet to reveal all of its benefits to the world of PC gaming, 2007 was still a very strong year for the platform, marking the launch of the most highly anticipated games in years, as well as some great surprises that came out of left field.

PC Game Of The Year 2007

BioShock

GameZone's Review

Steven Hopper: Easily one of the most anticipated titles of the year, many gamers knew that BioShock would be a fine shooter. However, few projected that the game would turn the FPS genre on its head by offering one of the most beautiful and terrifying gameplay experiences in years. From the moment that you first encounter a hulking Big Daddy and the creepy little sister, the game grabs you and doesn’t let go. The game’s impeccable sense of atmosphere draws you into the world of Rapture immediately and violently, unveiling the detailed nuances of a dystopian nightmare seemingly pulled from the mind of Ayn Rand.

The game’s phenomenal graphical presentation works in unison with the deep and open-ended gameplay to make for an experience that is not to be missed by any gamer, and one that will no doubt stand the test of time.

Mike David: It made both players and developers question what you can and cannot do in a videogame, then broke all those conventions. With an impressive sci-fi plot, increasingly challenging antagonists and a very cool retro science fiction look to it, Bioshock was my very favorite game of 2007 and possibly of all time. Moving the genre forward in a way only few other games have, I found myself trying to escape an underwater city where the water is seeping in slowly and dangerously. Evil men exercising their own god complex and a society filled with crazed people obsessed with making themselves more then human even at the expense of their own humanity and appearance. A cautious tale for those who should take the journey. But don't think that it isn't fun, the first time you upgrade your own body and begin dealing with the game's villians will get you hooked.

Dakota Grabowski: From the masterminds of 2K Boston (previously known as Irrational Games), Bioshock was released with critical acclaim from the media and curiosity from gamers. With such a high concept – and not to forget perfect execution of an unique art style – Bioshock combines clever gameplay with a masterful soundtrack to create a resounding experience that will be remembered for years to come. Though-provoking and entertaining until the very end, Bioshock is a candidate for game of the decade in my books.

Stephen Woodward: The game many consider to be the closest to art that video games have ever gotten is Bioshock. From the haunting art deco designs to the rich, philosophica narrative you explore, Bioshock is a supreme gaming experience. Ken Levine and crew have crafted the perfect blend of gameplay, visual design, and story. Whether you play it on PC or Xbox 360, it doesn't matter -- go play this game now!
