Best Music Game of the Year 2007 is ...

Rock Band

GameZone's Review

Louis Bedigian: Grab your friends, locally or globally, plug in your musical peripherals and show off your mad skills as a wannabe rockstar. This is the game the world has been waiting for (even though most players didn’t know it), a game that was inspired by Konami’s collection of music games – which, as you are likely aware, includes guitar, drumming, and karaoke. Guitar Hero’s improvement of the music game formula and huge North American marketing campaign helped lead the way for the Rock Band we have today. The gameplay is rock solid, the soundtrack is superb, and the peripheral collection – bundled with the game for those with nearly $200 to spare – is the best available from any manufacturer.

Michael Lafferty: Great music, great multiplayer, solid entertainment and challenge – this is what music-based gaming has aspired to and what was finally realized with the release of Rock Band. Rock Band is not simply a single-game concept, but rather four games in one package, which not only gives a great single-player experience, but sets the groundwork for what has to be the best musical multiplayer experience in current release.

Eduardo Zacarias: If there’s a game that screams party game it’s Rock Band. Having a friend or two picking up guitars while you take over the drums or the mic is a brilliant idea and the game does these things wonderfully while supplying great rock tunes. Rock Band is a Must for anyone who loves to rock out with friends.

Angelina Sandoval: Guitar Hero is a fun musical experience but it is Rock Band that completes the picture and makes this a game for rock fans and anyone who ever dreamed of rocking with your friends.

Mike David: The more I play, the more fun I have, our family band which consists of rotating members (for exhaustion sake) keeps the train rolling as we tour the US and then the world, taking on new venues and challenges to perform better. The songs, to pardon an expression, rock, and playing them in unison with other members of the house provide a very party game atmosphere which also makes me crown this game the greatest party game ever made. Nirvana, The Rolling Stones, Jet, Weezer, Bon Jovi, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins and Blue Oyster Cult are only some of the rock bands that take us on a journey through five decades of Rock and Roll. Admittedly, I don't love every song, but it doesn't matter, because I love most of them and even the the ones I didn't like, I am starting to warm up to. My wife, who loves country music is even coming around. This game is pure gold.

Nick Valentino: If you love rock and you love to share it with friends, then Rock Band is one of those games that deserves a place near your console. It also has a great collection of tunes as well.

Natalie Romano: You just have to love the fact that the game allows you to get together with friends to make up your own band in this game that uses rock tunes in the most creative of ways. Rock Band, you rock.

Music Game Runner-Up:

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

GameZone's Review

Guitar Hero III is the best of the series, and it is a serious challenge to boot. The sequel, in the hands of a new developer, was handled well and this is a game that fans of the genre would do well to play. The wireless guitar begs to be strapped on and danced around while playing, and the music selection screams to be turned up. Much fun is to be had here.
