BioShock

GameZone's Review

Eduardo Zacarias: As far as first-person shooters are concerned, Bioshock is a game that pushes the genre to new and exciting heights. This is not only an excellent first-person shooter but also a great game.

Natalie Romano: The very first time you go up against a Big Daddy you’ll know you’re stepping into new FPS territory. Bioshock is the type of game that puts you in a number of situations that will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Angelina Sandoval: Bioshock is just one of those rare first-person shooters that will stay in your mind long after you finished the game. It’s creepy atmosphere will not fail to give you the willies and it’s RPG-style progression makes you improve just about everything your character has to offer. In short, this is a brilliant game.

Nick Valentino: Bioshock will remain one of the most interesting and stylish shooters to grace the console and PC and it is one seriously enjoyable ride.

Aceinet: Bioshock sets the bar for FPS games by letting you customize your character with a variety of enhancements/weapons. The enhancements, called plasmids, do an amazing job of changing the game from just another FPS game to an amazing one. You can throw items with telekinesis, burn and freeze enemies, or zap those standing in water with a quick bolt of electricity. However, you don't have to use the plasmids if you don't want to, which still keeps the game as a great FPS game. The tons of intelligent enemies scattered throughout the game will always try to give you a bad day in Rapture.

Michael Knutson: There were many great First Person Shooter games released this year, but BioShock took the cake due to its great controls, wonderful atmosphere, and relentless AI. The weapons to use in this game were great, and made even better since players could find weapon upgrade locations and make the weapons they liked even stronger.

Louis Bedigian: Shooter Heaven from a world that looks like Hell, BioShock is a dark, eerie and engrossing first-person shooter. It’s highly polished and feels great from the second you pick up the controller. But after getting over the initial thrill of the intro, and after being impressed by the seamlessness of the controls, BioShock’s real beauty takes hold. You’re trapped in an underwater world, a place so different that all of Hollywood is likely kicking itself for not thinking of it first. The combat is fast and intense: you can never be certain that a room has been cleared of all its monsters. I can’t say that the game made me jump…but it’s still a very cool and horrific experience.

Mike David: As if gunning down mutants isn't enough, Bioshock is as much the thinking person's action title as it is a straight up action title. Freezing a genetic mutation with your newly acquired freezing ability and then shattering them with a pipe wrench is only the beginning. Soon you will find yourself mentally throwing a chair at a couple of mutants, angering one to the point of attacking his own kind with an esoteric power, watching them fight it out until only one is barely alive and then unleashing the poisonous bees from your veins to finish him off. There is much to do and experience in the land of Rapture and battling machine gun turrets, mutants appropriately called splicers (from splicing their own genes) and walking tanks called Big Daddies who guard the very disturbing gene harvesters called little sisters. The game never lets up as the splicers are constantly roving the city and once you think you have cleared out an area, four more will move in once you turn your back. The game keeps your mind racing as much as it keeps you on your toes.

Action - FPS Game Runner-Up:

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

GameZone's Review

Taking a shooter franchise in a new direction can be a gamble, but Infinity Ward has shown that it can pay off in spades. A completely intense thrill-ride from start to finish, Call of Duty 4 grabs hold of you and doesn’t let go.

Halo 3

GameZone's Review

Halo 3 delivers, right out of the gate, the action starts up and never lets up. It is a wonderful piece of science fiction work that deserves all of the accolades it gets. A strong lead character wrapped around a fantastic story.
