Wii-kly Update - 02/09/09: LIT and Wolf of the Battlefield: MERCS

Another one-two punch hits the Wii Shop Channel this week, rather than a return to a three-count, with one game landing on WiiWare and the other on Virtual Console. But even though the Virtual Console offering this week is for a SEGA platform, it looks like SEGA themselves are getting the week off. Instead, Capcom takes over by bringing MERCS, now rechristened as "Wolf of the Battlefield: MERCS" and starring "Super" Joe Gibson of Bionic Commando fame, to the Genesis. Meanwhile, WayForward (developers of Shantae and Contra 4) have released their newest offering to WiiWare in the form of LIT. LIT has an interesting concept, using the Wii remote and Nunchuk controllers to manipulate light sources so that lead character Jake doesn't get sucked into the darkness around him as he searches classrooms for his girlfriend. Take your pick; either game is 800 Wii Points. More details after the cut. Read More

Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 Out for PSN, Next Week for XBLA

Capcom announced today that next week on June 11th, Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3, the weird pseudo-prequel/offshoot/spin-off of Bionic Commando, will be available on Xbox Live Arcade for 800 Microsoft Points. In the meantime, PlayStation 3 owners can gloat, because for them, it's out now on the PlayStation Network $9.99. Of course, next week, it'll be the Xbox 360 owners who get to gloat, as they will become eligible to participate in Capcom's Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix beta test, with the final version said to be available later this year. Capcom touts Wolf of the Battlefield as the spiritual successor to the Commando and Mercs games, allowing players to take part as a rag-tag band of specialized soldiers, each with their own characteristics, as they take on the forces of General Ratiev, "tyrannical despot pent on global shenanigans." Three players can take part at once, online or off, with the difficulty shifting in accordance to the number of players engaged. The soundtrack comes from Metal Gear's famed Norihiko Hibino, and a wide variety of weapons, co-op vehicles, four levels of difficulty, plus comprehensive scoring and Leaderboards will keep players busy, at least until 1942.
