Aero The Acro-Bat: A Retro Rough Draft Video Game Concept

Video games do not spring from development studios fully formed and ready to go.  Your favorite games began as a rough concept document outlining the title's storyline, characters, offensive attacks, defensive moves, level outline, and other basic building blocks.  Yesterday we revisited Sunsoft's Aero The Acro-Bat franchise and explored the development process with Aero's creator, David Siller.  Now Kombo offers this original Aero The Acro-Bat rough draft concept document from 1992 and some period promotional artwork from Sunsoft's presence at the Consumer Electronics Show in 1993 as a look at how an average game was developed and promoted during the 16-bit years.  After all, some of Kombo's readership had not yet been born during Aero's heyday.  Enjoy this rare peek behind the curtain at the dawn of the acrobatic bat. Atlus Announces First HD Console Game: “Catherine”

The latest issue of Famitsu revealed this week that Atlus’ in-house development teams are finally moving towards HD console development. Their first game is an action adventure game, but seems like a prelude to something bigger. The game Atlus announced is called Catherine and is coming from the team responsible for the Persona games for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Atlus revealed a bit about the game’s subject matter and why they are making it. Catherine will have a strong horror theme and its content will be somewhat adult – featuring an older protagonist than what is usual from this developer and a story about a love affair. Read More

Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing News & Info Blowout

The time is nigh, as Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing is scheduled to drift its way onto retail shelves tomorrow. Even so, there's quite a bit of info in today's update. For starters, if you'll recall a certain trailer from about a week ago, it featured some people playing the PlayStation 3 version of the title with a wheel attachment. More about that has now been revealed, as The Sonic Stadium reveals GAME's Spanish website now has a PS3 bundle which includes an officially licensed wheel to help aid the game's Sixaxis controls. So far, the deal only seems to be in Spain, but we'll let you know if it spreads elsewhere. Read More

Nintendo's First-Quarter 2010 Lineup Revealed

Today, Nintendo issued a press release which reveals their lineup for the first quarter of 2010, which includes Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, whose box art can be seen above, as well as new pink and blue Wii Remote/MotionPlus packages on February 14th. "Along with the current White and Black versions of the controller, now every player in four-player matches can have his or her own color." Of course, the lineup isn't limited to first-party offerings, though many of the "dates" posted are rather vague, including "March," "Spring," "Q1," and in the case of No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, "late January." Nintendo Download - 10/19/09: Discover New LostWinds, Numerous Domo Games and a True Arcade Classic

This week, the Nintendo Download is jam-packed with new content, with the lion's share going to DSiWare. That's not to say WiiWare has wound up short; the sequel to LostWinds, Winter of the Melodias, is now available for 1,000 Wii Points. Joining it is Hudson Entertainment's latest effort, Shootanto: Evolutionary Mayhem, a Wii-styled shooter for one or two players and 500 Wii Points. The DSi is rolling in Domo-kun, as the iconic Japanese character surfaces in not one, not two, but five different titles, each for 200 DSiPoints. Choose from Crash-Course, Hard Hat, Pro-Putt, Rock-n-Roll, and White-Water Domo games. Finally, the Virtual Console does not go ignored, as Tecmo's Rygar hits the Virtual Console Arcade with Diskarmor spinning for 600 Wii Points. Find out more details on all of these titles in the press release after the cut. Read More

Nintendo Reveals First- and Third-Party Holiday Lineup

Nintendo has released the planned publishing schedule as it stands for the Wii and Nintendo DS/DSi, from both themselves and their third-parties. A lot of definite dates are not set in, instead referenced as "Fall," "Holiday," or "November," for example, but nonetheless serves to give us an idea of what the coming months will bring. "This extensive lineup will keep players busy throughout the fall and into 2010," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "Shoppers know that Nintendo offers fun for everyone in the household." Nintendo also mentions the upcoming black Wii Remote, Nunchuk, and MotionPlus as being available "this holiday season," though they don't get any more specific than that. Hit the jump for the full press release and list of games that will become available. Read More

Media: Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing - Images and Interview

Between yesterday's trailer and today's screens, it almost feels like SEGA is pulling the same trick as with Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. On the upside, there aren't nearly as many screens this time, but that's also a downside-- these seem to show a lot more variety to them. Sadly, no new screens for the DS crowd have surfaced yet, though they can still enjoy the character art of Sonic and AiAi. We also have another glimpse of an unconfirmed shadowy hedgehog on a motorcycle and a SEGA Community Interview from GamesCom with Sumo Digital Senior Designer Will Tarratt: ...and that's why Sonic's in a car. Looking at this, I really love the variety and style. And while I know some may see it as blasphemy to even suggest it, this game really makes me wonder what Nintendo could do if they made a Mario Kart-style game with the full range and variety of Super Smash Bros. characters, stages, and such. I wonder who else from the SEGA archives will make their way in? Or what they would do for Golden Axe or Altered Beast characters. Who would you want to see join the race? Read More
