Nintendo Download - 2/1/10: Swing True, Bet Big and Vanquish Evil with New Game Downloads

Not a huge week in the Nintendo Download to start out the month of February, at least not in scope. In terms of quantity, on the other hand, nine isn't so bad. Golfers on the go can download the new Express version of True Swing Golf on the DSi, as well as staples such as 5 in 1 Solitaire and DOWNTOWN TEXAS HOLD'EM. The brain-training types have Move your Brain Rollway Puzzle, and Legends of Exidia seems like just the thing for traditional gamers. WiiWare also has 5 in 1 Solitaire, plus an action-puzzler in Tumblebugs 2. But odds are, most eyes are going to be on the fifth and final chapter of Tales of Monkey Island. And finally, from the oldschool comes one of the stars of the upcoming Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, Alex Kidd, as he takes on the legions of ninja which inhabit Shinobi World. Interestingly enough, this Master System game was never released in Japan. For full descriptions of each game, check out the press release that follows after the cut. Read More

Media: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom - Seth Walks Us Through Using Frank West

Last week, we learned that the rumors were true, and Frank West of Dead Rising fame would be joining the fight against classic anime characters in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. What's more, we got a good look at his attack inventory, which among other things includes the same lovable Mega Man references as the game in which he originated. Now, Capcom's fighting game guru of greatness, Seth Killian, gives us a more detailed look at what West brings to the table when he covers this war: You know who West reminds me of here? Princess Peach. They both swing golf clubs in battle, but where Peach opts for a frying pan, Frank swings for the bleachers with a baseball bat. And they both use others to fight their battles for them: Peach uses a Toad as a shield, while West brings in zombies. Of course, while the Princess's Final Smash is just "peachy," I have to admit that West's finishers look absolutely killer. Servbot head for the win. Read More

Iwata Asks: MotionPlus Volume 1

It's time once again for another edition of "Iwata Asks," where none other than the worldwide President of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata himself, gets down and dirty with the lowly working-class stiffs as he seeks to discover just how his company works. But seriously, I love that he does this stuff-- where else do you find this kind of internal insight, and from the guy at the top of the chain, no less? This time out, Iwata is talking to the development team who created the recently-released Wii MotionPlus, which as we know from last year's E3 has been in development for quite some time. Following are a few excerpts from his interview with the team. Read More

Peter Moore Pitches the MotionPlus Difference

When the Wii first came out, those who played it soon divided into two types of gamer: Those who would stand up and really get into the action of swinging a tennis racket, and those who figured out that they could achieve the same success by keeping their butts on the sofa and just flicking their wrist. However, it would seem that the Wii MotionPlus is poised to change all of that, as its 1:1 movement tracking sounds as though it will require a much more involved physical effort in order to achieve the desired results. And who better than Peter Moore, President of EA Sports (who one might expect would want their players to be more active), to tell us about the difference? Read More

God of Par: Play as Kratos in Hot Shots Golf

If there ever was an argument for the benefits of downloadable content, this would be it. The Playstation Blog announced today that Kratos from God of War fame, is being added to the roster of Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds. The best part about it? It's happening today and it will only lighten your wallet by a mere $2! With original voice work from T.C. Carson and special attention paid to the animations, it really is a testament to how DLC can further a gaming experience. Yes, all the rumors are true: Kratos, the one and only, has made his way to Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds… and he's looking to claim his rightful seat as the God of Golf! In all honesty, integrating Kratos into Hot Shots Golf was by far one of the best experiences, as we got to work closely with the God of War team and the casts of characters (voice over, animators, etc) that created Kratos in his original form. If I had to pick one of the most fun parts, it would have to be our VO sessions and watching (listening?) T.C. Carson jump into the Kratos role in a completely new environment… trust me, there were plenty of eye-watering-side-splitting laughs that day… -- Playstation Blog I have a feeling that a fair number of people that aren't even interested in golf are going to grab a copy of this just to play a round with our loin clothed friend. EA All-Play Is (Theoretically) Fun for the Whole Family

EA Sports isn't just in the game; they're also on the cutting edge. So of course, the recent casual gaming bonanza has EA's sports specialists reworking their playbook a little. Today, EA announced its brand new line of Wii sports titles. These "All-Play" titles are just like other ball-catching (and/or throwing) sims, but with the option to invite granny onto the gridiron. Yes, that's right -- get ready for a great game of significantly dumbed-down football! So far, five games have been announced for the new initiative: NCAA Football 09 All-Play, Madden NFL 09 All-Play, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 All-Play, NBA LIVE 09 All-Play, and FIFA Soccer 09 All-Play. For those of you who want to more fully understand exactly what your family's in for, EA painstakingly detailed each and every game in their press release, which is posted after the break. Read More
