PSN Thursday – 8.6.09: Batman, Nazi Zombies, and LittleBigInFamous

Another Thursday, another PlayStation Network update. Those looking to give Batman: Arkham Asylum a shot before it comes out later this month are in luck. There is a 1GB demo now available. Aside from that, Call of Duty: World at War has a new map pack. It consists of four new multiplayer maps, including Der Riese, a new Nazi Zombie level. The endless LittleBigPlanet DLC continues to be…umm…never ending. This time you can pay $1.99 to dress your Sackboy up like a hipster bike messenger with super powers of electricity. Yes, I'm referring to Cole from InFamous. Another notable release is Square Enix's tower defense game, Crystal Defenders. For $9.99 you can download the full game or try out the demo for free. Check out the whole list after the break. Read More

Virtua Tennis 2009 to be First Game to Support Wii MotionPlus

Oh, happy day! It was revealed today, in addition to Wii MotionPlus's firm release date of June 8th in the US, that the first third-party game to support the peripheral would be none other than the much awaited next installment of perhaps the greatest sports title ever, Virtua Tennis 2009. EA's Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2010 also support MotionPlus, but SEGA's VT 2009 has the distinction of being the first available. Not only that, but Nintendo's own Wii Sports Resort, it's first product to support MotionPlus, isn't being released in the US until July 26th, well over a month after VT 2009's release on June 15th. As much as I love Virtua Tennis, I was near positive that the Wii incarnation of '09 would wind up being another much maligned waggle fest that only kids with ADD could enjoy. However, if the MotionPlus peripheral actually does all it's been touted to, and give true 1:1 motion control, then Virtua Tennis could become an instant favorite in my book. Not to mention, sure to inspire a whole new wave of Wii Remotes flying through people's televisions! Read More

LittleBigPlanet for PSP - Sony Annoucnes PSP Lineup

I love press releases. I love them for there ambiguous lack of screenshots and simple text that gets me excited for no good reason. I love them because they make me like my consoles... my children (creepy yet?). Sony has thrown down a solid lineup preview for the PSP. In the crowd, we get a handheld specific LittleBigPlanet and Assassin's Creed. Neither sound like simple ports. Hit the break for the full, title crammed press release... Read More

EA Says Wii Graphics are "Not Broadcast Quality" When Making Commercials

Oh, EA, what trouble will you land in next? In a recent UK ad for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09, Tiger Woods is depicted swinging a Wii remote with a Tiger Woods on a television screen following his movements. And Virtual Tiger looks good... but perhaps a little too good, say angry consumers who complained to Britain's Advertising Standards Authority. Read More

The Games That Don't Install Well on NXE, and How Much Room It Takes for Those That Do

One of the most hyped features (somewhere after Netflix and Avatars) of the New Xbox Experience is the ability to install games to the Xbox 360's hard drive. However, as Halo 3 has taught us, it's not quite a perfect procedure. In fact, it would seem that there is a small number of titles which don't really see any improvement when installed, thanks to the way the developers designed them. According to Destructoid, these titles are Big Bumpin', College Hoops 2k7, Pocket Bike Racers, Sneak King, Crackdown, Dead or Alive Xtreme 2, and Quake II from the Quake IV Bonus Disc (according to NeoGAF). Or, to put it in a different perspective, it's the three Burger King promo games, an out-of-date basketball game, a game most people bought just to get into the Halo 3 beta, and a game most people probably don't want anyone else knowing they own, anyway. Takes a bit of the sting out of it, I figure. So now we know which ones don't work. But of those that do work, how much space will they take up? This is a question that's no doubt on the minds of many... or at least, however many bought a 360 with a 20GB hard drive. Fortunately, Sean has compiled a list over at NeoGAF which answers that very question, along with a few notes here and there about the reduction in load times. However, he notes "I can't possibly verify all of these sizes/notes, just going off of what people tell me. If there's an error please correct it and be nice about it." For your Kombo Konvenience, the list is posted right after the kut... er, cut. Whew, that was close. Read More
