...and then, the unthinkable happened. In Japan, on the home turf of Nintendo's Wii and Sony's PlayStation 3, the American-made Xbox 360 by Microsoft outsold its competition for the first time in five months. And according to a research firm, the catalyst which tilted things in the Box's favor was none other than Square Enix's Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Okay, maybe this turn of events wasn't unthinkable, but it was still a little surprising, as the RPG went on to sell 173,850 units from February 19th to 22nd, making it last week's top selling software. This helped boost the sales of the console to 21,013, a nice margin over the Wii's 16,900 and PS3's 15,967. But can Microsoft maintain momentum? Read More

Images courtesy of Siliconera. Years ago, it was not uncommon for publishers to change elements of video games to suit an American audience, for fear of the culture gap between their tastes and Japan's causing them to not "get" certain things, such as the anime aesthetic. Hence, content, story, and more would receive a facelift-- or total reconstruction-- before being unleashed upon an unsuspecting public. Read More

It's not really a JRPG party until the Nintendo DS gets a couple of titles to occupy our time.
