New Xbox Experience is the Biggest Thing Since Color TV, Apparently

After months of waiting and anticipation/dread, the New Xbox Experience is almost upon us. As such, Microsoft has seen fit to issue a press release to help usher in the dawning of a new age. What they don't seem to cover is for just how long we have to keep calling it the "New" Xbox Experience. Kind of reminds me of that one station they used to have around here, "the New VR." I don't think it's around any more, at least not in that form. Look at the signs, Microsoft! Don't let this happen to you! Anyway, here's what they have to say:LONDON - Nov. 18, 2008 — In 1954, the introduction of colour TV heralded the dawn of a new era in entertainment. On Nov. 19, more than 50 years after that dramatic shift, a new era in home entertainment begins...Oh, give me a break. Hit the jump for the rest. I won't interrupt again, promise. Unless you want me to; then I'll see what I can work out later. Read More

New Xbox Experience Avatars Backwards Compatible with 5 XBLA Games

A couple of months ago, Microsoft was talking about their plans for Avatars, noting that since they would be restricted to E-rated titles, you wouldn't be able to blow their heads off (which disappointed many, I'm sure). However, while you may not be able to blow their heads off, you can still blow them up, as several Xbox Live Arcade games, including Bomberman Live, will be retroactively compatible with the New Xbox Experience's Avatars. So, you've made your avatar and now you're wondering what to do with it. When the New Xbox Experience launches on Nov. 19, four existing Xbox LIVE Arcade games will be updated to include Avatar functionality to make your gaming even more personal. Join your friends and play UNO!, Bomberman Live, Hardwood Hearts and Hardwood Spades and watch your Avatar come to life with custom animations throughout game menus and lobbies. On top of that, a new Xbox LIVE Arcade title will also launch with fully playable in-game Avatars - the first title to ever launch with this feature on Xbox 360! (Stay tuned for more info about this game in the coming weeks). In addition to Xbox LIVE Arcade, Scene It? Box Office Smash will also incorporate your Avatar into gameplay. The game released on Oct. 28 - it will get a title update on Nov. 19 that will allow you to use your new Avatar. -- Gamerscore BlogIn addition, Major Nelson talks to the team who's bringing us the Avatars about what to expect: Read More

Sony Confident in Holiday Releases in the Face of Microsoft's Lineup

Ok, so maybe they aren't going to break even this generation, if some people are to be believed, but Sony still has some nice stuff coming down the pipe for their faithful. And that includes a line-up they're proud of this holiday season:Speaking to VidoeGamer.com at the Games 3.0 conference in London earlier this week, [Sony UK managing director Ray] Maguire said that "for the first time I can sit back and think, 'yeah we've got five super strong titles'.Among those in Sony's queue for the holidays are Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. Meanwhile, Microsoft's holiday lineup features Scene It? Box Office Smash, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Fable 2, and Gears of War 2. So how does Maguire think they stack up to one-another?"I think we've never been in a stronger situation. This is the first year for me that I can sit back and think, 'yeah we've got five super strong titles'. Some of them ground breaking by creating almost a new genre and the others starting to really use the strength of the Cell chip and the graphics. When I look at LittleBigPlanet, when I look at Resistance, when I look at MotorStorm, and then I look at things like Abba on SingStar, before we even get into Killzone next year, I think we've got a line-up really to be proud of." -- VideoGamer.comBoth sides are looking pretty strong... who do you think has the better lineup?
