The Future of Bizarre Creations, or Why You Shouldn't Listen to Twitter

Earlier this afternoon, mini-blogging and rumor-fanning site Twitter blew a freaking gasket over the supposed shutting down of Project Gotham Racing and James Bond 007: Blood Stone creators Bizarre Creations. The Liverpool studio was said to have been axed by Activision mere hours ago, with the news originating from a statement on Giant Bomb that the studio will be subject to a "90-day consultation period, statutory redundancy." How this translates to the studio being shut down, necessarily, is beyond me. Read More

Bungie was Against Halo's 'Combat Evolved' Subtitle

What's in a name? Since its debut in 2001 with Halo: Combat Evolved on Xbox, Bungie's celebrated franchise has sold millions and influenced the games industry in countless ways. Apparently Bungie wasn't crazy about that subtitle, though. In an interview with EDGE, reports CVG, Bungie designer Jaime Griesemer described how the notorious descriptor came into existence. "Oh, man... the subtitle," Griesemer said. Hit the jump to read on. Read More

UK Gets Halo 3, Mass Effect, and Project Gotham Racing 4 Price Drops

Later this month Halo 3, Mass Effect and Project Gotham Racing 4 are being invited to join the Classics collection. UK gamers should be able to find these classics at their new price point on March 20th. "We are delighted to add three of our finest titles to the Classics range, adding to the exceptional entertainment offering available on the Xbox 360 at outstanding prices," said David Gosen of Xbox Europe. No word on the titles being added to the classics in North America, but I'm sure an announcement is just around the corner. Should be plenty easy to catch up on these games if you missed them. Jump into the Halo hype train with everyone else! Experience a great RPG with Mass Effect, or get your race on! Read More

Is Gran Turismo Being "Snubbed" by the Guiness Book of World Records?

Is Sony's Gran Turismo being snubbed by the Guiness Book of World Records? Fans at GT Planet certainly seem to think so, as the publication's annual "Gamer's Edition" seems to be moving away from the measured facts and figures of word records and into more objectionable material-- the kind which you are just as likely to find on nearly any video game blog, website, or magazine out there. In this specific instance, the book is now gauging what it believes are "The Top 50 Console Games of All Time." Gran Turismo makes the list at #19, behind some rather considerable heavyweights, including Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the Mario Kart series (as a whole), Grand Theft Auto, Street Fighter II, and more. The Games That Don't Install Well on NXE, and How Much Room It Takes for Those That Do

One of the most hyped features (somewhere after Netflix and Avatars) of the New Xbox Experience is the ability to install games to the Xbox 360's hard drive. However, as Halo 3 has taught us, it's not quite a perfect procedure. In fact, it would seem that there is a small number of titles which don't really see any improvement when installed, thanks to the way the developers designed them. According to Destructoid, these titles are Big Bumpin', College Hoops 2k7, Pocket Bike Racers, Sneak King, Crackdown, Dead or Alive Xtreme 2, and Quake II from the Quake IV Bonus Disc (according to NeoGAF). Or, to put it in a different perspective, it's the three Burger King promo games, an out-of-date basketball game, a game most people bought just to get into the Halo 3 beta, and a game most people probably don't want anyone else knowing they own, anyway. Takes a bit of the sting out of it, I figure. So now we know which ones don't work. But of those that do work, how much space will they take up? This is a question that's no doubt on the minds of many... or at least, however many bought a 360 with a 20GB hard drive. Fortunately, Sean has compiled a list over at NeoGAF which answers that very question, along with a few notes here and there about the reduction in load times. However, he notes "I can't possibly verify all of these sizes/notes, just going off of what people tell me. If there's an error please correct it and be nice about it." For your Kombo Konvenience, the list is posted right after the kut... er, cut. Whew, that was close. Read More

Rumor: Microsoft to Release 2 New Peripheral Bundles?

Word from the GameStop Expo in Las Vegas is that Microsoft will be releasing 2 peripheral bundles to accommodate all of the new Xbox owners this holiday season. The first bundle includes the Xbox 360 60 GB Hard drive, 3 months of Xbox Live, and an ethernet cable for $99. Pretty great deal for those new Arcade owners that are looking to upgrade after realizing what the Xbox Live Marketplace has to offer. The second bundle will include 12 months of Xbox Live, a messenger kit, and Project Gotham Racing 4 for $69.99. PGR4? Oh well, it beats Uno. "Finally, Microsoft fans can potentially look forward to the 60 gigabyte Xbox 360 harddrive being available in a $99 bundle that will include the HDD, three months of Xbox Live, and an ethernet cable. And if you want a game to play on your fancy new next-generation setup? Well, there's always last year's Project Gotham Racing 4, which our sources tell us will be packaged with 12 months of Xbox Live and a messenger kit for $69.99. So for those keeping score at home, that's an Xbox 360 Arcade, a copy of PGR 4, a 60 gigabyte HDD and 16 months of Xbox Live for roughly $370, or $20 less than the standard 80 gigabyte PlayStation 3. -- 1UP I currently own a 20 GB Premium 360 which happens to be filling up more and more every day. While $99 for the hard drive bundle is pretty decent, I'm thinking that it would be worth just paying a little more to grab the 120 GB? As for the other bundle, thanks but no thanks. There's a reason they're giving away Project Gotham Racing 4 and I don't want any part of it. Read More
