Nintendo Prepares for 2008 Holiday Season with More Wiis, WiiWare Titles

Among the other news revealed today by Nintendo, the company has issued a press release which details their holiday plans in terms of games which will be made available, and a peek at what to expect in 2009. Of particular interest are WiiWare titles such as Tetris Party, Strong Bad Episode 3, World of Goo, Boingz, and cult PC classic Cave Story. In addition, a new Pokemon Ranger title will arrive on DS on November 10th. To help get people gaming, Nintendo hopes to have an increased supply of Wii consoles on store shelves between October and December: "We have new games and new experiences for every kind of player this holiday season, and that will certainly fuel increased interest in Wii and Nintendo DS," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "While there's no way to gauge total demand for our hardware systems, we're trying to satisfy as many of those players as possible." Check out the full press release after the cut. Read More

Media: Latest Afrika Trailer Shows Actual Gameplay

Here it is folks, the one we've been salivating over in anticipation: A trailer for Sony's Afrika with actual gameplay footage. It looks like a next-gen Pokemon Snap except with real animals inhabiting realistic environments which can be explored on foot, based on what I've seen so far. I'll be very surprised if this doesn't become a PSN-only release, though. It doesn't seem like the type of game PS3 owners would drive to Walmart to pick up. Take a look: Read More

PS3's Afrika Now Starring You... as a Journalist?

Since its announcement, Afrika has been almost certainly portrayed as a game about animals in their native habitats. I, and I'm almost certain the same goes for all of you, have always assumed that we'd get a chance to hunt as a cheetah or run in fear as a gazelle. Well, not exactly. As it turns out, Game Star, a Japanese retailer, recently posted a description of the game: "The photojournalist travels by foot, by car and sometimes by hot air balloon..." The description also goes on to state that players will be able to build an "Animal Library" which shows of shots of their encounters across the vast lands in the title. The game is due out in Japan at the end of August. All of this comes to us today, and leaves me utterly disappointed. I wanted to see the spitter spatter of blood as I kill or get killed. I wanted to poke my head out of the sand with the rest of my meerkat friends. Now what? Afrika is apparently going to be a photorealistc version of Pokemon Snap! That's basically it...Minus Pikachu and Psyduck and Meowth and Charizard and... Screw this! I'm going to go play Pokemon Snap! Read More
