Wii May Have to Cut its Price, says Pachter.

Wii May Have to Cut its Price, says Pachter.

Ah, the Wii. A pariah to some, a revolution to others and to Nintendo, a bonified cash machine. Or is it? While in previous years the Wii sold at such a rate that it was almost impossible to find it on store shelves, recent months have seen something unprecedented in the lifespan of the Wii, a decline in sales. The first two months of 2009 saw a 39% drop in US sales. According to gaming analyst Michael Pachter, this is just further evidence that a price drop is prudent. Hit the break to get Pachter's thoughts. Read More

Rockstar's Dan Houser Talks Video Game Violence Controversy, Being a Pariah, and More GTA

During a recent interview with The Times Online, Rockstar's Dan Houser explained that he thinks video games are finally starting to move away from being a constant source of controversy due to violent content. In addition, he seems to tease the development of the next Grand Theft Auto title. "[V]ideo games are a popular and easy enemy," he explains. According to a press release issued by Take-Two, Digital Extremes will be joining the Bioshock PS3 team, currently staffed by 2K Marin, 2K Boston, and 2K Australia. "When 2K approached us to assist with development on BioShock for the PLAYSTATION 3 system, it was a no-brainer," said James Schmalz, CEO and founder of Digital Extremes. "You really can't ask for a more exciting, technically impressive world to work in than Rapture, and the incredible knowledge and talent between the 2K studios and our team at Digital Extremes is unprecedented. The collaboration on this project will make the PLAYSTATION 3 system sing with Big Daddy goodness and Little Sister 'thank you's'." While the devs behind Dark Sector and Pariah may not know much about "exciting...worlds," they've likely penned a few books about the "technically impressive" part. Thus, I have a pretty good feeling about Digital Extremes' involvement with Bioshock, and wish them luck in developing the Big Daddy-Little Sister karaoke mini-game Schmalz not-so-subtly hinted at.
