Oddworld Abe's Odyssey Getting Full-On Remake

This is no mere port, apparently. The 14-year-old PS1 game is getting a total next-gen makeover. "Abe HD is going into production. It's basically Abe's Oddysee being redone in a 3D physics engine as a 2D side-scrolling platformer," series creator Lorne Lanning said to EGM (via VGChartz). "So the way Just Add Water wants to approach it, we thought was very smart; they are not trying to reinvent any wheels. It’s like, 'Can we make that experience in a new engine, with new tech, in the old way?'" Harumph. Call me old-fashioned, but I just don't see the need for this. Hit the jump to keep reading. Oddworld Classics Hit the PlayStation Store Thursday

Over a month ago, we reported that Oddworld: Abe's Exodus and Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee would be the next additions to PSN's library of PSone classics. This will finally become a reality on Thursday. At $10 each, Sony is treating these games as premium titles, and justifiably so. The original titles had quite a following because of it's intelligent side-scrolling game-play. Oddworld Inhabitants developer, Lorne Lanning, discussed not only the possibility of re-releases with the other games in the series, but also the future of the franchise itself. With regard to the Xbox Oddworld titles, Lanning said, "We're working on a strategy to bring them over as well. May take us awhile, but we hope to achieve what you're asking for." With regards to more Oddworld on PSN, he had this to say: "Unlikely that they would continue in the same format of sidescroller. But we're far from done with Oddworld. Just taking us awhile to get back to it and we've currently got a an extremely full schedule with the new stuff." Lanning later confirmed that the entire collection of games will be available on the PC in 2010, while an effort to bring the Xbox games to the PS3 is still in the works. Read More

Syphon Filter 2, Oddworld and More Coming to PSN

If you can't wait to play more PSone Classics on your PS3 or PSP, ESRB's website is the place to go for an early look at which games will be released on the PlayStation Network in the near future. In the past, the ESRB has updated PSone game listings to include the PS3 and PSP and guess what, every updated game made its debut on the PlayStation Store soon after. Now, it looks like a few more originals can be added to the list. The games that have been updated include: Syphon Filter 2, Oddworld: Abe's Exodus, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee and Um Jammer Lammy. While it hasn't been actually confirmed that these are the next PSone titles to be ported to the PSN, history would lead us to believe that these four titles will be released for your downloading pleasure very soon.
