The Last Metroid Prime Trilogies Have Been Shipped, But is the Galaxy at Peace?

If you've been pondering whether or not you want to drop your hard-earned dime on Metroid Prime Trilogy, you should probably make you your mind, and fast. The Wii title, which as the name implies is a compilation of all three main Metroid Prime games, was released on August 24th, but supplies have begun to dwindle at some retailers. This includes online retailers such as Amazon.com, who themselves have had no copies available for some time now (what they do have is through other sellers). Read More

My Game This Weekend - 06.19.09

For my games this weekend, I get a special treat. Well, special for me, anyway. I've got a couple of Nintendo's New Play Control! titles on loan in Mario's Power Tennis and Pikmin. I've already given MPT a go, and it's not too bad. That means that I now have my eyes set on Pikmin to see how that fares versus the GameCube version of the title, which I have around here somewhere. I hear the interface is quite the improvement. I know I've said I'd review Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, but finding the time lately has been difficult. Hopefully I can get something up soon, but in the meantime, I'll just say: Get it. For $30, it's hard to beat the price (see what I did there?), and while different in a number of ways from the GameCube original, it definitely hits all the right notes. Also, I'll likely try to squeeze in a bit of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations. That, and the usual Animal Crossing: City Folk. I'm beginning to strongly dislike the wearing-down of grass, though; my town's starting to look like an old-west desert town. With trees. So, those are my games this weekend. What are yours? Punch-Out!!'s Final Fighter Revealed?

For the past few weeks, there has been talk that there is actually a mysterious boxer in Punch-Out!! who goes beyond the initially-boasted 13 challengers that have been spoken of. Once Little Mac is able to stave off the revenge of those who seek his championship in Title Defense Mode, a new challenger appears. But who could it possibly be? "Iron" Mike Tyson, back for revenge? Floyd "Money" Mayweather? Heck, The Big Show? Don King seeking royalties? The answer may shock and astound you. I'm not even sure I believe it myself... and that's with video, which you can find after the cut. Read More

My Games This Weekend - 05.08.09

Hmm, what are my games this weekend? Well, I can certainly tell you what I'm likely not playing this weekend: Kirby's Adventure for the NES (via Virtual Console). I just beat that last night. As a result, I might look into a new game to fiddle with here and there. I'm craving the original Legend of Zelda lately, so I may go for that. Pity the original Contra isn't there; the announcement of Contra ReBirth has me wanting to get my Konami Code on. Of course, there's the Animal Crossing: City Folk routine, and I may get some Excite Trucks in, but I think I may find myself with a focus on New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. From the sound of things, no one here has called that, so it may be up to me to tell you guys whether or not to buy. But as a hint, I'm three levels in, and loving every bit of it. Sure, the lack of bongo controls sucks, but might this one be even better? Maybe... Read More

New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat's Hidden Surprise

Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to pick up a copy of New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (don't worry, the June release is only for Europe), and I've been having a blast with it so far. I don't want to say too much, since there is probably a review coming soon, but let's just say that Nintendo did quite well with this-- even without the bongo controller. That said, I know there are some people out there who are very particular about the box art of a game they have to put among their collection, and it's these people which I imagine look upon the "New Play Control!" box art with disdain. Fortunately, there is good news. Read More

Jungle Beat Wii Dated for Europe

We mentioned yesterday that the new play control version of Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was supposed to be coming out soon, but Europe is a little behind. The game is now going to drop on June 5th, and have new stages and new enemies to go along with the new control scheme. Changing the control scheme from bongos to Wii remote and Nunchuk seems like a great idea, and it'll be interesting to see how well it works. Also, it's nice to see that while Nintendo doesn't mind just releasing old games with a new control scheme to make more cash, they actually can go in and make some changes instead of just porting everything over. It's little things like this that give them the edge. And I guess owning the hearts and minds of parents and casual gamers doesn't hurt either. Read More

Media: New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat Gameplay Videos

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat comes out today, or so they say. And I have to say, I'm really liking this trend Nintendo has begun of shipping their games out earlier, as opposed to the Tuesday shipping employed by most. Unfortunately, my attempts to see if anyone would/could break the street date yesterday all failed, and it seems that still no one around me has it today. Fortunately, GameTrailers has been kind (or cruel?) enough to upload some gameplay videos of the title to tide me over until I can try again tomorrow. Tuesday was the lucky day for Excitebots; will DK follow suit? The first two videos focus on platforming action, while the last looks at the game's unique boss battles. Read More

My Games This Weekend - 05.01.09

Hmm, my games this weekend? I'm not even sure how long I'm going to get to play. Tomorrow is Free Comic Book Day, so I'm headed up to Cyber City to grab a handful, as well as pick up a few TransFormers: Revenge of the Fallen comics (not free) and Mario figures (also not free). There's a nice selection, including a free Sonic book, free TransFormers/G.I. Joe, free Avengers, free Green Lantern, and even a free reprint of the first issue of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from Mirage. Plus, the Bongo Simpsons/Futurama comics are always good for a laugh. A pity there's no such thing as "Free Video Game Day." Sunday, I'll be getting dinner and seeing X-Men Origins: Wolverine, against critics' better judgement. In between all that, I'll likely try to squeeze in some more Excitebots and Animal Crossing. Truthfully, though, Monday is where my gaming focus is, as that's when the New Play Control! version of the excellent Donkey Kong Jungle Beat comes out. I can't wait to give that one a go, and you can read all about it in Johnny's hands-on preview. Read More

Media: 10 New Donkey Kong Jungle Beat Screens

Well, as new as screens from a ported-up GameCube game can be, anyway. Nonetheless, they're in our gallery now, just in time for the game's release. Okay, in plenty of time-- the game is due out May 4th, after all. But the big question is: Is it worth getting? The original Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was amazing, but can it hold up without the bongo controller? Because to be honest, I'm still a little sore that's not even an option. But then again, maybe this is perfect for those who were turned off by the bongos (or simply wore their hands out). Our fears shall soon be squelched-- or validated-- when ol' Jonny Hechema, who was lucky enough to be invited by Nintendo to give the game a try last week, writes up his impressions. In the meantime, look over the screens in our gallery, and check out Nintendo's fact sheet after the cut. Read More

My Game(s) This Weekend - 03.21.09

Decided to drag this old feature out of mothballs. Couldn't remember if it was called "What Are You Playing This Weekend?" or "My Game This Weekend." Turns out it was both, with the latter being the newer version, so that's what we're running with. Let's see how long we can keep this up-- plus, I have a small surprise coming up relating to it, so stay tuned. Recently, I've found myself playing a lot of Excite Truck. With the news and video springing up out of nowhere, that's all it took for me to want to get back into my "big damn truck." Last week, I finished unlocking the trucks and the last few courses, so I just need to get S ranks on those. I may give that a go, or I may take a break from it. Read More

Wii List for 2009 Released, Punch-Out!! Dated

Own a Wii and curious when some of the games you are looking forward to will be coming out this year? Well you've come to the right place. Nintendo has released its full list of games for 2009, and a little bit of info about the game that most people are excited for, Punch-Out!! Wii. Here's the official blurb about the game: "The core game mechanics revolve around the tactics of boxing, detecting and exploiting weaknesses in the opponent's defence. Punch-Out follows the story of Little Mac, an up-and-coming boxer from the Bronx, NY, on his way to becoming the boxing World Champion. The game includes various signature characters and the Wii Motion controls provide an intuitive & unique boxing experience." Press releases can make anything sound boring, don't you think? But that's not why you stopped anyway. Hit the jump for Nintendo's 2009 list. Read More

New Play Control! Pikmin 2 to Join Donkey Kong Jungle Beat for US Release

We recently learned that, in addition to the recently-released Mario Power Tennis and Pikmin, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat would be making its way across the Pacific to join them in Nintendo's "New Play Control!" lineup for the Wii. And as of today, we now know that as expected, Pikmin 2 will be joining it in its venture Westward. Hopefully, this bodes well for another unannounced "New Play Control!" title, Metroid Prime (to say nothing of its own sequel). Read More

Punch-Out! Dated - Spring Line for Wii and DS

Punch-Out! is coming on May 18th, according to the latest gigantic Nintendo press release. You'll have to hit the break for that, but a few things of note. It's big, I think I already said that, it comes with a release schedule that runs from now until June or, simply, Summer. There's also a slate of descriptions for some bigger upcoming titles off of said roster. One weird thing here is the presence of Wii Sports Resort, the one that makes use of the Wii Motion Plus device; it's Spring 2009 release has been changed to merely 2009. Hit the break for a gigundus wall of text! Read More
