Nintendo Download - 12/21/09 - 500th Downloadable Wii Game Makes for a Smashing Holiday Season

As time ticks down for 2009, one could only wonder which game would reach the Virtual Console first: Super Smash Bros., or Pilotwings. And with today marking the 500th release on Virtual Console, the choice seems obvious as the original Super Smash Bros. finally arrives in North America for a whopping 1,000 Wii Points. While relatively primitive compared to the likes of Melee and Brawl, this is one I still look forward to trying out, mostly for some of the unique stages that for whatever reason were never brought back in later installments. Smash Bros. isn't alone, however; the arcade version of Ninja Gaiden also arrives on Virtual Console... er, at last? It's 600 Wii Points, but Nintendo has an interesting way of selling it: "Each stage is based around popular Western misconceptions about ninja and Japan, making the game world a fantastic mix of ninja and American pop culture." On the upside, at least you can toggle settings, such as number of lives and difficulty, so perhaps it will be a more tolerable experience now. There are plenty of other releases this week, too, just in time for Christmas. That includes the game we looked at just last week, 530 Eco Shooter, now known here as "Eco Shooter: Plant 530," and Dragon's Lair for DSi. See what's what in the press release after the cut. Wii List for 2009 Released, Punch-Out!! Dated

Own a Wii and curious when some of the games you are looking forward to will be coming out this year? Well you've come to the right place. Nintendo has released its full list of games for 2009, and a little bit of info about the game that most people are excited for, Punch-Out!! Wii. Here's the official blurb about the game: "The core game mechanics revolve around the tactics of boxing, detecting and exploiting weaknesses in the opponent's defence. Punch-Out follows the story of Little Mac, an up-and-coming boxer from the Bronx, NY, on his way to becoming the boxing World Champion. The game includes various signature characters and the Wii Motion controls provide an intuitive & unique boxing experience." Press releases can make anything sound boring, don't you think? But that's not why you stopped anyway. Hit the jump for Nintendo's 2009 list. Read More

Nintendo's Full Q1 Line-up for North America

A few days ago, we brought you Nintendo's full first-quarter lineup for the UK (or possibly more of Europe; it came from Nintendo UK, and they didn't really elaborate much). Today, we have the full first-quarter lineup for North America, which has some minor differences here and there. One note: Is "New Play Control!" seriously what they're looking at calling the "Play on Wii" lineup? Read More

Nintendo Releases Second-Half Line-Up of Games

In an interesting twist (I guess, maybe they do this all the time, and I never noticed), Nintendo has released their US game line-up for the second half of 2008 and into 2009... to Europe. Some highlights included on the list are Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Call of Duty World at War, Guitar Hero World Tour, Skate It, Mushroom Men, two Star Wars games, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Mario Super Sluggers, Sonic Unleashed, Ghostbusters, and quite a bit more. Better still, Nintendo says that this is an "incomplete" list, meaning more titles could sneak their way into the lineup. Here's hoping more from the Big N themselves. For the full bill of goods (as it stands), both good and bad, click the jump. Read More
