New Super Mario Bros. Wii Get's a 40/40

Last week's issue of Japanese Famitsu Weekly awarded New Super Mario Bros. Wii with a perfect score. This adds to the game's positive critical reception as well as Famitsu's own quickly-growing pantheon of perfect score awards. With perfect scores, the four Famitsu reviewers for New Super Mario Bros. Wii praised pretty much every aspect of the game from the singleplayer to the multiplayer. First and foremost however was the responsiveness of that game's controls. New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the first traditional Mario game and the second game featuring the character Mario to get a perfect 40/40 from Famitsu. Famitsu has now awarded more perfect scores in 2009 than any previous year. Read More

Twilight Has a "Huge Fan" in Hideo Kojima, Who Will Judge Fan Art Contest

When Lords of Shadow was revealed to be a Castlevania game with Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima attached, I was admittedly a little uneasy, mostly due to the series long having been the baby of Koji "IGA" Igarashi. But over time and with new interviews lending insight into the creative end of the game, my fears were more or less laid to rest. And then today, I learned that Hideo Kojima is a "huge fan" of Stephanie Meyer's "Twilight," and threw up in my mouth a little. Read More

Sony Still Losing Money Off PS3

The Times, a popular publication in the United Kingdom, got an exclusive interview with Sony head Kazuo Hirai at Gamescom this year. The typical topics came up, such as marketing and why the PS3 Slim was produced. One of the questions, however, was quite interesting, to say the least. If you recall, the PlayStation 3's original costs were far greater than the price. The result? For every console sold, Sony lost quite a hefty sum of cash. Even now, despite the current PS3's production costs being 70% less, it is still losing money. You would think that with the PS3 Slim Sony would finally be making a profit, right? I mean, it's much sleeker, uses less packaging, and uses a much more cost-efficient CPU. Apparently the console still costs the company. After the cut is one of the questions asked to Mr. Hirai. Konami Speaks on Trophy Support for Metal Gear Solid 4

Following in the footsteps of Microsoft's Xbox Achievements, Sony rolled out Trophies for the PlayStation 3 in July of 2008, one month after Metal Gear Solid 4 was finally released to the same console. Since that time, avid fans of the game have wondered when and if Konami and Kojima Productions might finally implement the system into the game. They remained silent on the issue until recently, when Sean Eyestone made the following statement on the Kojima Productions Podcast. Check it out after the cut. Read More

Shadow Moses and Old Snake Come to Metal Gear Online

Metal Gear Online players are about to get a blast from the past (dinosaur not included), as Konami is preparing to deliver to players who have the SCENE Expansion Pack a new map, character, and reward mode. The map is called "Icebound Inferno," which is none other than the nigh-iconic Shadow Moses Island from the first Metal Gear Solid, which has reappeared in MGS4 and even as a playable stage in Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Brawl. In addition, Old Snake becomes a playable character with his Octo-cam suit as a weapon, and a new Auto Matching Reward mode has been added. For further details, check out the press release after the cut. Read More
