EA Takes the Axe to Nine More Online Titles

A while back, it was revealed that Electronic Arts was cutting online support for a number of games, some of which were surprisingly recent entries in their sports lineup. Some are by default, due to the termination of support for the original Xbox LIVE, while others are probably simply due to few people actually playing those games online. EA's Service Updates page lists the nine new games to go down, one of which is in Asia only: Army of Two for the PlayStation 3. Following the cut is how it breaks down. Read More

Madden 09 and NBA 09 on Chopping Block for EA Sports' Online Cuts

A commonly-heard complaint about EA Sports titles such as Madden is that it is just the same game, repackaged year after year with a few stat tweaks and the like. And yet, the complaint continues, fans eat it up year after year, thus making the company plenty of money. However, one must wonder if perhaps these same fans who have padded EA's pockets year after year have begun to catch on, thus prompting the company to take action by shutting down the servers for a number of its "09" titles. Call of Duty Classic Tops the PSN Downloads Chart

As you may or may not know the latest PlayStation Store update gave us all a list of the top 20 downloads. The list at this point in time is quite colorful with a nice array of games, including a lot of PSP titles. LittleBigPlanet PSP tops all of the other PSP games on the list, good job sackboy! It seems Call of Duty classic is quite popular with PlayStation users, since the games release on December 3rd it has skyrocketed its way to the top of the list, I'm sure a lot of those downloads were from people who bought the hardened or prestige editions of Modern Warfare 2. Nonetheless it is pretty cool to see such a classic game getting huge attention in this day and age. It goes to show you that gameplay > graphics! Hit the break to see this weeks top 20 downloads Read More

Big Dawg Takes EA to Court

The name Thompson is shaking up the courtroom with litigation regarding video games once again, but this time it isn't Jack who is doing the barking, but John. John Big Dawg Thompson (apparently his real, legal name, hence the lack of quotes) has filed suit against Electronic Arts for using his likeness-- or rather, that of his mask-- without permission in their Madden NFL 09 video game. Thompson filed his case with the Cuyahoga Country Court of Common Pleas in July, seeking restitution for the alleged unauthorized and unlicensed use of his Big Dawg persona in the hit video game. My Games This Weekend - 08.15.09 - How much is too much Johnny Madden?

I am proud of my ability to find time for gaming even when I am impossibly busy. The problem is that when I do sit in front of the TV I'm drawn to old and comfortable games that would bore you to read about and I don't want to do that so early in our relationship. Wait, I'm not David! I guess I should probably introduce myself. My name is Jeff Grubb and I am covering for David this weekend. I am new to Kombo and you may or may not want to know more about me... too bad, I'm going to tell you either way. I've been playing games for 21 years and writing about them for about five years. I think if my mom would have known what would happen when they got me that NES for my fifth birthday she would have bought me piano lessons instead. Read More

PSN Thursday – 8/13/09: Marvel Vs. Capcom, Tomb Raider, and LBP

Welcome, welcome to your weekly journey through the PlayStation Network releases. This week's release has got some pretty good stuff. Marvel vs. Capcom, which recently came out on Xbox Live Arcade, is now available for the PlayStation 3. That will run you 15 bucks. Also, it seems Sony has been on top of the ball about re-releasing classic PSone titles. The original Tomb Raider is the most notable title to come out this week and that will cost 10 bucks. The guys at Media Molecule are releasing their LittleBigPlanet Histroy Pack today. You can check out the details of that here. Continue reading for the official word from the PlayStation Blog. PSN Thursday – 7.30.09: Obese Princesses and Watchmen

I'd venture to say that this week's PlayStation Network update is above average in quality, mostly due to the fact that Fat Princess is now out. In addition, the second episode of Watchmen: The End is Nigh is available for 15 bucks. If you'd like to try before you buy, there is also a demo version. Your standard Rock Band and Guitar Hero DLC makes an appearance. However, you may notice the lack of LittleBigPlanet content. I'm sure we can expect some next week though. Media: Madden NFL 10 Has Got a Brand-New Look

Another year, another attempt by EA Sports to tap into the Wii crowd and find something that works. This time, they are employing a "new genre-defining art style." Whoa, "genre-defining?" Let's not go overboard here. It's certainly different; kind of reminds me of some older sports games, in fact. The body types remind me of Nintendo's NES Ice Hockey, actually. Anyway, since I know jack-all about football, and EA put together such a nice press release (and one which utilizes their new pics, at that), I'll let them do the talking from here and give you the visual tour. Hit the cut to see what they have to say, and check the gallery for even more pics. Read More

LittleBigPlanet for PSP - Sony Annoucnes PSP Lineup

I love press releases. I love them for there ambiguous lack of screenshots and simple text that gets me excited for no good reason. I love them because they make me like my consoles... my children (creepy yet?). Sony has thrown down a solid lineup preview for the PSP. In the crowd, we get a handheld specific LittleBigPlanet and Assassin's Creed. Neither sound like simple ports. Hit the break for the full, title crammed press release... Read More
