9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors Hitting US Shores This November

If you're of the school of thought that the DS doesn't have nearly enough text-based adventure and puzzle games (and who isn't?), then you'll be happy to learn that Aksys Games' 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors, released last December in Japan, is coming to US shores this November. The announcement of the localization came last month, but the release window was just announced today. In the July press release, Ben Batemen, the game's Localization Editor, said that the game "is about relationships, and how they will ultimately kill you." It may sound like it's a game about your last break-up, but in reality, it has more in common with Saw. Hit the jump for more details and a Japanese trailer. Read More

Splinter Cell PR Stunt Goes Horribly Awry

In one of history's most boneheaded marketing moves, an actor promoting Ubisoft's Splinter Cell: Conviction caused a scene at a New Zealand night club which almost led to gunfire. The actor pulled a fake plastic gun on a crowd of about 20 patrons at Auckland's Viaduct Basin, causing the police to arrive at the scene almost immediately with weapons drawn. Hit the break to read about the mess. Read More

Beyond Good & Evil 2 "On Hold."

After Ubisoft announced Beyond Good & Evil 2 and teased it with videos to much praise, and then said the game's fate was uncertain, they revealed today that the project may be on hold. Iwata Explains How the DS Still Has More Growth Potential; Notes Dangerous Economy

Some would say that the market for the Nintendo DS has been oversaturated. But Nintendo Co. Ltd. President Satoru Iwata? "Nonsense!" he says. "Balderdash! Poppycock! And many other cool, obscure words that say you're full of crap!" All right, all right, he didn't say any of that, but he did disagree with the assertion all the same. And to back up his claim? He has numbers, so be afraid. Read More

New Wii Terms of Service Vexes Hackers

As you can see in the screenshot at right, it looks like Nintendo is going to be cracking down on homebrew development in a big way. This adjustment to the terms of service will allow Nintendo to not only remove full channels from the Wii memory, this could also put your saved games in jeopardy. No word yet on if this will result in your Twilight Princess saved game getting pooched. In further terms of service updates, Nintendo changed the terms of services on their website to reflect the new found ability to modify/update the Wii's firmware without the user's permission or notification. Before:"To ensure that your Wii Console is operating properly and efficiently, we may download updates, patches, upgrades and similar software to your Wii Console. In addition, we may disable unauthorized or illegal software that has been placed on your Wii Console without notifying you where necessary, in order to comply with applicable laws, assist law enforcement, protect us and our customers, and prevent the use and distribution of software obtained through improper channels."After:"We may without notifying you, download updates, patches, upgrades and similar software to your Wii Console and may disable unauthorized or illegal software placed on your Wii Console to ensure that your Wii Console is operating properly and efficiently, comply with applicable laws, assist law enforcement, protect us and our customers, or prevent the use and distribution of software obtained through improper channels."It is starting to look like Nintendo is taking a step down a very slippery slope. Hopefully some of the more tech savvy users have realized the changes that have been made and choose to take a stand against it. Though I have not hacked my Wii, I have this thing against Big Brother telling me what to do, so I guess this means that my Wii is now WiFi disabled. Read More
