NPD Announces Their Top Ten Best-Selling Games Of All Time

Like a monthly birthday present, the NPD numbers greet us on the second Thursday of every month, giving us sales numbers that we, the gaming journalists can dissect, criticize, and post so gamers like you can commence with wild fanboy warfare. To celebrate 15 years of said numbers, the NPD announced the top ten best-selling games of what will forever be known as the NPD era. And what was number one, you may ask? Could it have been a giant franchise like Grand Theft Auto, Halo, Call of Duty, or Madden? Nope, the biggest seller is actually Wii Play, the minigame compilation notable for also including a controller in the package. For those of you who aren't buying that as the top pick (and we don't blame you), the rest of the list, which includes some of gaming's most heavy-hitting franchises, is after the cut. Read More

Wii Has Eight More Million-Sellers Than GameCube

If these figures are accurate, we can assume Mario is plumbing toilets with diamond-encrusted plungers. According to sales-tracking Web site VG Chartz, 48 games for the Nintendo Wii have sold one million or more copies worldwide, an impressive figure given the console has been available less than three years. Nintendo's last system, the GameCube had 40 million-sellers in more than seven years, eight less than Wii. Breaking down the platinum list by title, Wii Sports still sits atop the list of Wii's best sellers. Including pack-in sales, the popular sports collection has sold more than 44 million copies worldwide. It is included with the console in all territories but Japan. Rounding out the VG Chartz list of Wii's ten worldwide best-sellers are Wii Play (22 million), Wii Fit (18 million), Mario Kart Wii (15 million), Super Smash Bros. Brawl (8 million), Super Mario Galaxy, (8 million), Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (7 million), Mario Party 8 (6 million), the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (5 million) and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (4 million). All but two of these Wii games were published by Nintendo. Read More

Nintendo's Press Release Following December's NPD

Well, December's NPDs hit last night around 6pm EST. The DS officially came in with the best selling month for any unit of hardware in history; it beat the PS2 with just over 3 million units sold, compared to their 2.7 million set a few years back. But of course, Nintendo PR reps immediately jumped in to give us their take on the numbers. It doesn't take a psychic to figure out whether or not they were pleased with the results. Hit the break to see their full press release... Read More
