Confessions of a PSPgo Owner

That’s right, I admit it. I caved in to my techno-gadget-loving desires and shelled out the $250 for another PSP when my current PSP works just fine. It’s white and sparkly and cute, and I just want to hug it and squeeze it and name it George. But before the sexist comments come out that I only bought it for the girlish reason of being cute, I really did have reasons for doing so, and it’s because of these reasons that I do not regret my purchase. Well, that’s not totally true. I do miss that $250 that could have been used on other games. Read More

Final Fantasy XIII may have come and gone but there's still good news cropping up for franchise fans. Some not so cryptic hints insinuated that Final Fantasy IX might be heading to the PlayStation Network; well, the Japanese one anyway. According to some recent twittering from Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto, the downloadable version of the game has moved from "on its way" status to "ready to go." Get the final word after the break. Read More

Final Fantasy VIII is #1 in December PSN Sales

Just because Final Fantasy XIII is still a month and a half away doesn't mean Square Enix's flagship series ain't already enjoying success. After hitting the North American PlayStation Store on December 17, Final Fantasy VIII (that's "8," don't let the three I's throw you for a loop) quickly became the most popular game on the scene. Patrick Seybold, Senior Director of Corporate Communications & Social Media for SCEA, said that this past December saw the highest revenue month to date for PSN, a 155% increase from one year ago. Final Fantasy VIII wasn't the only PSOne classic to sell like whoa, however. Check out the top ten PSN purchases for December below. 1. Final Fantasy VIII (PS3/PSP) 2. PixelJunk Shooter 3. Final Fantasy VII (PS3/PSP) 4. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PS3/PSP) 5. Resident Evil 2 (PS3/PSP) 6. Frogger Returns 7. Call of Duty Classic 8. Borderlands: The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned 9. Tetsuya Nomura Teases New Games, One Unannounced

When Tetsuya Nomura talks, people tend to listen. Perhaps the most popular character designer in the industry's history, Nomura has designed the three biggest Final Fantasies to ever come out of Square Enix (VII, VIII, and X), as well as create his own massive mashup franchise, Kingdom Hearts. Now, with his latest Final Fantasy, XIII, out in stores in Japan and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep for the PSP on the horizon, Nomura took some time with Famitsu to reveal some upcoming facts about some of his yet-to-be-released games. First off, Nomura confirms that the voice acting for one game has concluded, but he didn't say which one. Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Agito XIII, and the Third Birthday (AKA Parasite Eve 3) are all supposedly on the way from Nomura, so that game could simply be one of those. However, Nomura also confirmed that he has yet another unannounced game in the works, one that isn't technically "new" Obviously, it's a remake of some kind. But of what? If I had to wager, I'd say things are going to start getting even more...cloudy. Read More

Update: "Coming Soon" to the PlayStation Store: Final Fantasy VIII

North American fans of Final Fantasy VIII can breathe a little easier now. After its September appearance on the Japanese PlayStation Network, Sony Computer Entertainment America kept mum about the game's prospects on our side of the ocean, while Europe was to have an October release which has since been delayed following testing problems. But that has now changed, as a recent e-mail newsletter has revealed that PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3 owners alike will soon be able to relive the adventures of Squall, Rinoa, Seifer, and all the rest. The exact "when" of the matter remains undisclosed, however, as the title appears under the "Coming Soon" section, where it sits alongside District 9 for the Video Store and BUZZ! Quiz World. On the upside, at least we know they're planning for it now. Update: Actually, now word is that it's already on the PS Store. Go figure. Read More

Glory of Heracles Muscles Into Stores January 18

Since E3, we haven't heard much about the upcoming RPG Glory of Heracles for Nintendo DS, but Nintendo has finally seen fit to tell us we'll be experiencing the epic adventure on January 18. Set in Ancient Greece, Glory of Heracles is actually the latest in a long-running series of RPGs created by now-defunct publisher Data East. Rising from their ashes was Paon, who worked on the latest installment with Nintendo. This is the first in the franchise to make the jump outside of Japan. As for the game's story chops, those aren't going to be something to worry about. The game was written by Kazushige Nojima, the former Squaresoft veteran who worked on Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and X.
