Crysis 2 Dev Sees End of Free Demos

In an interview with Develop, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli, whose company is hard at work at the upcoming Crysis 2, revealed that he felt that the days of not spending a dime for a trial version of a game are numbered. "A free demo is a luxury we have in the game industry that we don't have in other industries such as film," said Yerli. "Because we've had this free luxury for so long, now there are plans to change this people are complaining about it. The reality is that we might not see any free game demos in the long term." The first episode of Final Fantasy IV: The After Years was made available on Monday, and Square Enix is making sure to get its name out there even more at E3. After the video above, check out the screens and character art in our gallery. On a related note, come on, Capcom. Nintendo Download - 6.1.09: Dash, Shuffle and Flip Your Way To Fantasy

Compared to the retail games shipping out this week, the latest Nintendo Download isn't so bad. In fact, with the arrival of the first episode of Final Fantasy IV: The After Years to WiiWare, it's a bit better than some weeks altogether. Of course, the price for a single episode may be off-putting to some at 800 Wii Points, but I suppose it could be worse; Strong Bad's episodes went at a thousand Wii Point apiece. If RPGs with green-haired ladies aren't your thing, then WiiWare also has a new Texas Hold'em game, aptly titled Texas Hold'em Tournament. It's only 500 Wii Points and supports up to six players. Or, there's Boulder Dash from the Commodore 64, also for 500, which is described as "one of the big computer-game classics," and is a rare instance of a home game being ported to arcades, rather than the other way around. And finally, if you're on the go, WayForward's Mighty Flip Champs! lands on DSi, and costs a whopping 800 DSi Points. Nonetheless, the puzzle-platformer looks to be rather innovative, and hopefully as fun as it sounds. Hit the jump for the full press release with more info. Read More

Media: Final Fantasy IV: The After Years Preview and Release Date

At long last, fans of Final Fantasy IV across North America will have the opportunity to pick up and play the game's continuation, which was initially only available on Japanese cell phones. Now, Siliconera reports that the game will be reaching American WiiWare on June 1st, just before E3. What's more, they have offered up the following preview video: However, it says that FFIV: TAY will be offered in nine episodes, which is three less than what Japan received. As Siliconera explains, "Some of these like the prologue, Kain's, and Ceodore's chapters appear to be bunched together in the US release." Read More

WiiWare Turns One

Nintendo's WiiWare download service has just reached its first anniversary, and to celebrate, they've released the following video, which looks back at many of the great releases the service has seen. Some favorites named include Mega Man 9, World of Goo, Tetris Party, Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, Dr. Marioâ„¢ Online Rx, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, BIT.TRIP BEAT, LIT, and LostWinds. Looking ahead, they anticipate big things for Cave Story, Icarian Kindred Spirits, Super Meat Boy, BIT.TRIP CORE, and Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. What, no Contra ReBirth? How disappointing. There are still some of these I need to get, though. In the meantime, Happy Anniversary, WiiWare! Keep the good stuff coming! You can find Nintendo's full press release after the cut. Read More
