E3 2010: Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 Hands-On

Sonic & Knuckles was released in 1994. Many consider it the last good Sonic game to date. After that, Sonic 3D Blast began the long downfall followed by the his total absence from the Saturn. Sonic Adventure – while flawed and rushed – was a good start into 3D. Unfortunately, it would arguably be the last. Sonic last decade has been hell, littered with unfinished dribble rushed for Christmas launches, and tailored to kids rather than everyone. Many (including myself) believed Sonic the Hedgehog 4 would follow the same fate. Having played all the demo stages available, I believe it's safe to say that I was wrong. Sonic 4 is awesome. New 3D Dot Game Heroes Options and Game Modes Revealed

Last week saw From Software's 3D Dot Game Heroes make its first playable public debut, and since then, many options for the title have been revealed. For those who like their games to be extra-tough, the game's normal difficulty has certain conditions which can be met to unlock the "From" mode, which is described as being "extremely" difficult. Within, the King doesn't mince words, essentially telling you your quest is the same as it was before and offering a simple recap. Elsewhere, other characters will praise your bravery. Read More

Nintendo Download - 9/14/09: Spend a Revolutionary First Semester Racing from Texas to Toyland

Last week's Nintendo Download brought us Contra ReBirth; could anything possibly top that this week? Well, probably not so much, but this week's offerings aren't so bad, either. DSiWare has two interesting offerings: one is Art Academy: First Semester for 800 DSi Points. Unlike the typical entries in the genre, this one is more about teaching you the nuances of painting on a canvas. But if art isn't your thing, then the run-and-jump action of Oscar in Toyland, also 800 Points, might be more your style. WiiWare has a triple threat of the 600 Wii Point Texas Hold'Em Poker; the 800 Point Mart Racer, in which you race through super markets with shopping carts; and the 800 Point Spaceball: Revolution, which sadly has nothing to do with the Mel Brooks film. Finally, the Virtual Console sees an update for the NES in the form of Crash 'N The Boys Street Challenge, a sort of rough'n'tough street-style sports game for 500 Wii Points. Find out more about each title in the press release after the cut. Read More
