Screw the Vita, buy a PSP

Vito Gesualdi has five good reasons why you should consider skipping the Vita launch and investing in a PSP. Does he have a point, or is he just a cheap bastard? Read More

Confessions of a PSPgo Owner

That’s right, I admit it. I caved in to my techno-gadget-loving desires and shelled out the $250 for another PSP when my current PSP works just fine. It’s white and sparkly and cute, and I just want to hug it and squeeze it and name it George. But before the sexist comments come out that I only bought it for the girlish reason of being cute, I really did have reasons for doing so, and it’s because of these reasons that I do not regret my purchase. Well, that’s not totally true. I do miss that $250 that could have been used on other games. Read More

Summer of XBLA Featuring Castlevania: Harmony of Despair on August 4

Despite rumors early last month that Castlevania: Harmony of Despair would be released as part of Microsoft's Xbox Live Summer of Arcade promotion, the game wasn't mentioned in the initial announcement of this summer's annual Xbox Live Marketplace sale, as our report was quick to point out. Fortunately for Castlevania fans hankering for a classic Dracula-slaying title with a new twist, Konami has today announced that HoD will, in fact, be the third of five titles released over the coming weeks. The Xbox Live exclusive will be available for download on August 4 at the reasonable price of 1200 Microsoft "space bucks," or about $15. Hit the jump for more details. Read More

Castlevania: Harmony of Despair Slated for Summer... of Arcade

A midsummer night's dream will soon be a reality as the first Xbox Live Summer of Arcade title is announced. Castlevania: Harmony of Despair will be among the games released under this brand for 2010. This game won't be exactly like the other side-scrolling Castlevania games that everyone has come to love, as Harmony of Despair will be a multiplayer title -- something foreign to the Castlevania franchise. Castlevania Ordered to be More Mainstream, Western

Castlevania might become the next Japanese franchise to fall victim to the call to make that country's games appeal more directly to Western audiences. The franchise needs change, but must still remain Castlevania. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is being developed in Spain by MercurySteam, similar to how the last two Silent Hill games were developed in the United States and United Kingdom, and the next one is coming out of Czechoslovakia. The Spanish producer of Lords of Shadow revealed that Konami over in Japan ordered him to make the game feel more western to appeal to more mainstream audiences. Read More

Multiplayer Castlevania: Harmony of Despair rated, existence seems probable

The Australian Classification Board website has today inadvertently confirmed the existence of Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, rumors of which first surfaced about a month ago. According to details released by (and promptly pulled from) gaming and technology news blog Never Know Tech, Harmony of Despair is a six player, two dimensional, multiplayer "Metroidvania" type experience. The title was trademarked in Europe last month, and the Australian Classification Board revealed today that the game will receive a "Mature" rating in the land down under, which translates roughly to a Teen rating in the US.
